2004.5 & 2005
Thoughts have been pretty quite here lately concerning fuel milage on these new trucks. Just wondering if everyones milage had gotten a little better with age?

Fuel Mileage on 04.5
Good timing on your question as I have been running some fuel mileage tests on mine recently. I basically drive the same pattern week in and week out so I can say I have very little difference in driving distance, habits etc. My driving is probably 80/20 with the 80% being in town. My truck initially was getting in the low 12's when purchased. Gradually over time and with having done some deliberate long pulls of heavy trailers I got it up to 16.8. So I feel she is beginning to break in a bit. I have had the reflash by the way. I also recently got the Juice. Here's the kicker,...with the Juice on lvl 4 I get in the mid 14s. With the Juice on lvl 1, which I believe is 20hp and also it's giving us some timing as well,...I'm at 19.4! Guess what lvl I drive it at unless I need more,..you got it! I'm pretty certain that at highway speeds as on a long trip I should be hitting the 20mpg range. For me, this is no longer a negative issue regarding the fuel economy. What more can you expect from a 1 ton. I have about 10,500 miles on the truck now, FYI.

I am glad to here this report. I received one of the first 2004.5s out of Mexico the first of last year. I averaged 14-16 for a while and I started messing up my truck (my wife says) And I now regularly get low 20s. The middle of last year I was called a liar several times on several diesel boards. I truly think the first time I make a 500 mile trip on the interstate and drive decent I will get 23-25.

That is a good question and I don't know. I have been told it was a was of money and it could be. The fact that the commercials show it causes a twirl in the air flow maybe that helps speed up the air flow.
