2002 Auto Tranny

Last night I was helping dad with some water hauling. He was coming home and pulled a hill that we have pulled many thousand times. Well last night his auto tranny started hunting for a gear. When it found it, it started shakeing the truck real bad. What is going on. Now even unloaded it has a bad shake? Is it time already to get a new tranny? The truck has 21,000 miles on it. Bone Stock!

Jared:

It sounds to me like your Dad's torque converter may be
going bad! The dreaded "Dodge Shudder" is usually caused
by the torque converter. It did it a LONG time ago on my
1996 and I can tell you the torque converter was definitely
wore out! However, I had 98,000 miles on my stock
transmission at that time. You Dad's truck doesn't have
near that many miles, but I know many of them fail or
are wore out with low mileage. If it is under warranty I
would take it into the Dodge dealership!

Good luck buddy!

Thanks John! It has had a slight shudder from day one, but I couldnt get him to take it back and complain. Well now he understands me better. Guess its hard for the old man to listen to his young son.

Jared:

You are welcome! I am sure Dodge will cover everything
if there is a problem with that converter. I forgot to tell
you that on my 96' once that "shudder" started it only
got worse as time went on.

Take care.

Re:2002 Auto Tranny

My dads 2000 with edge EZ when he had it loaded with a bob cat or JD 350 C something of that weight would shudder like crazy pulling away from a light but would be fine once rolling. His only did it loaded it now as over 200,000 Km on it with the second owner pulling his bob cat with no probs. Its each truck is different I suppose.
