My 2001 2500 has the standard non-flip style mirrors on it. They are powered and heated. I'm wanting to upgrade to the flip up towing version. I've read in past posts that powered/heated versions for the 01's was not available. However those posts were 2-4 years old. I found these:

Anyone tried them? All indications are that they should plug right in. Do I need a mounting kit?

I have never seen a heated/ power version of the towing mirrors for the 2nd gen body style. The factory mirrors also require a reinforcing plate in the back.

I would really take a hard look at these and make sure hey are labeled correctly. Seems they would be manual for 2nd gen and power/ heated for 3rd gens.

Those are the same thing as the kool-vue mirrors commonly sold on ebay for our trucks. They are not OEM, but I haven't heard any complaints about them. You will need to get the mounting plates for those mirrors from the dealer. Not sure of the part number. Do a search for kool vue or towing mirrors and it should be in there somewhere.

I bought the **** mirrors from Geno's-power and heated. I am really happy with those. The heater part works really fast, a lot faster than the small stock mirrors. They pull out though. Well worth the price for me.

I ordered these mirrors and they are heated/powered as advertised. Got the support brackets from the dealer. The fit is not quite as clean as the stock mirrors but not bad. Still, a lot better than the slip on extensions I have been using.

Just do a search on kool Vue mirrors part numbers they are dg49el and dg49er. They worked great for me you also need the dodge brackets to mount them I ordered them from the dealer. I have the part numbers if you need them. But again on this Web site the numbers are here. Note two things when installing them you have to grind down the end of the mirror Joy stick to allow it to clear the new mirrors studs.
To install them and be able to get the studs to go into the new Dodge brackets you will have back off the studs to make them longer. Then install them tighten them up so it compresses everything together. Then remove them tighten the studs back into mirrors and put them back on. This will save you a ton of time trust me. I got them at a local Pro Body parts place they gave me the same price as Ebay.

Also, be sure to route the wires thru the slots on the mounting flange on the mirror. There are cutouts for them to pass thru without getting pinched.

The backer plates as previously mentioned are a must and trimming the insulation out of the **** isn't a big deal, you don't need to take out much.

I've got the kool-vues and you cannot tell they aren't the stock flip outs. The ***** look too big and droopy for my taste, however guys seem to like them a lot too.

Also the kool-vue have the correct wiring plug so you don't have to mess with re-wiring anything, just plug-n-play.

is it possible to put those style mirrors on a 96? i like those better than the towing mirrors they used back in 96

After exhaustive research I do know that they will fit the doors correctly but the wiring will have to be modified with a separate switch for the heat feature, that wasn't offered till late 97 for the 98 model year. You'll need the backer plates and have to trim the backing on the remote switch a little bit but thats no big deal.

No problem 55156128ac and 55156129ac I paid 15.00 each Canadian. Good luck on the install. I had 2003 Hemi with the factory Mirrors and I say the Kool vue are the just as good as factory.

There really is no difference between the factory and kool-vue mirrors. Same stipling as the non towing stockers, same dimensions and mirror layout areas.

Some feel the kool-vues are a bit lighter than stock power heated tow mirrors but I can't say, mine were manuals. I am very pleased with mine.
