ive got a 2001 2500. i just replaced the lp and ip in the past 3 months... when the truck has been sitting for a couple hours or so, it starts right up. but, if i turn it off and try to start it within 30 or 45 minutes it cranks for a long time before starting. i can always get it to start, but somethings not right. any ideas whats goin on?

Sounds to me like you have an air leak in your lines somewhere. I would start checking for leaks in all the supply and return lines. Otherwise check your fuel pressure. My money is on a leak though.

Why would it start right up after sitting a couple hours or so and not immediately after shutdown? Sounds like something else to me, an air leak would be worse after a couple of hours rather than right after shutdown, wouldn't it?

i have considered an air leak but havent had time to check it out good yet... my brother told me he heard of a guy who was having a similar problem and it ended up being some kind of senor. thats all the info he knew though... i dont know much about sensors and stuff like that. has anyone else heard of something like that happening?

do u see any fuel dripping or smell raw fuel?

dont see any fuel leaks and no obvious air leaks... the thing that really has me confused is why it will start fine cold but wont start right when its hot

point the nose down hill and see if it starts right up

You might try looking up TSB 18-015-00a. It is for a hard start when at operating temp. It calls for a re-flash of the ECM. Didn't work for me, but could for you.

I'm having the same problem, I also have a IP and FP less then a year old. I've been pumping out some white smoke also with no codes. If my IP is going bad I dont have much time left on my warrenty.

Are you sure the starter is spinning it over fast enough?

My 2001 was doing the same thing, started good cold, but not after shutting off for 20 minutes than try starting. I tried sensors and filters, I changed all rubber lines and put new screw style hose clamps from lift pump to main pump, starts every time now. Must have been drawing air somehwere.

I'll try not to high jack your thread with my problem, But is it safe to say that our problems can be pin pointed to some kind of fuel delivery or injection problem?

sorry i've not been able to respond to an suggestions. i'm actually out of town right now and cant work on the truck... its at least good to know im not the only one with this problem

I have no fuel leaks, the truck will go to the dealer to make sure the VP44 is working up to par.

I have a 03 that was very hard to start when it was cold. I took it in and had the injectors tested turned out to be that # 5 was bad so I replaced it started right up no problems until the engine got up to temp. Then hard starting again drove it back had them test while the engine was up to temp bingo #1 injector was no good when the engine was warm it passed when the engine was cold. Replaced it no problems yet
