2001 AT Light

Hello board.

Just when I thought I had everything fixed on this truck.....

I had my automatic trans serviced, (new filter, new fluid, and adj bands) about 2 months / 2000 miles ago. No troubles at all until just today. I jumped in the truck to head home this afternoon,....and my Trans light came on going down the hiway at 55mph....no load.

I pulled over,......pulled the dipstick.....everything looked ok, plenty of fluid, no burnt smell.

Drove it home without any noticable difference....(light remained on the entire way home). Did the three key when I shut her down at home. All I get is the 1693 companion code. Any ideas? I just dumped $1500 into the fuel system, I'm really hoping this is something simple.

Truck has 106,000 on it.

Pretty sure the tranny light comes on when a really high fluid temperature has been reached, in the neighborhood of 280+ degrees.

My guess is the temp sensor took a dump.
Tranny codes usually don't show up with the key on/off trick, you'll need to get it scanned with a real scanner.

My Bad Gentlemen.....I pulled out my owners manual.

This is my MIL light (check engine). First time I've ever seen it come on. It's kind of shaped like an Auto Tranny......

Anyway....I hate to have my Dodge dealer stick me for $70 to run a "diagnostic". Any alternative ways to get the codes pulled aside from paying the dealer?

Turn the keyswitch on-off-on-off-on then look at your odometer and write down the code numbers.

I dont have an AutoZone any where near me. A few Advanced Auto's.....otherwise mostly sturdevants and carquest. I sure wish I could by an aftermarket code reader like Ford and Chev have.

You can buy the aftermarket code readers. Start calling around to the parts stores. I'm thinking AutoZone has one for $150.00, O'Reilly, Advanced or other shoud have them also.
