Angry 2001 Cummins = Too Loud Says Neighbour = Me GRRRR!!!

Cop pulls me over this morning telling me my trucks too loud!!! Had a complaint from some neighbour. I go out of my way to park in my garage and plug in my 24 valve so all I have to do at 7:00 am is start my truck and take off. I've never let it idle outside because it's an 24 valve and I thought I was going out of my way already. What do these people want from me, do I have to push it down the street and start it like we used to when we were stealing dad's truck as kids??? These people are getting way to used to the new "Quiet" diesel's. The cop say's "I have a Dodge diesel and mine's quiet" and I asked him what year it was and he says a 2004. I said that's why and he said I needed a muffler or he's going to tow it. I showed him the muffler I have and he said it's too modified. Well sorry pal but the muffler doesn't quiet down the John Deere tractor motor under the hood!!!! Putting on a muffler will only dampen the exhaust, not the engine. Am I supose to buy a new truck, maybe I should get this neighbour to buy me one???Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I ******!! Sorry so long of a rant!!!! I don't run around town wide open blowing black smoke everywhere and I idle down my street everytime!!! What would you guys do???

I would do nothing if your truck is legal and passes inspection than it is legal, however I would give the neighbor something to call the cops about and I would smoke his house a few times.

That would bother me a lot, granted I do not live in the city, but I do have a neighbour right across the road. But all they do is smile and wave when I see them leaving my yard, and even if i leave haulin on er, they just laugh and wave, lol. What happened to those good old days, seems everyone as you said dodgediesel is throwing a fit over every diesel that is louder than 2 decibals. I think it's mainly because everyone still has in their heads that Diesel are sooooooooooo bad for the environment, they shouldnt be allowed

Herzog, I like your thinking

I don't know which neighbour it is??? I have the MBRP dual 4" kit and it's quiet until it's wide open. I have never been this upset before over anything especially when I go out of my way!!!

oh i hate cowards like that they should over and confront you face to face if they have a problem, I know I would respond alot better to that and try to work it out.

That sounds like a great idea but the cops are "too busy" these days. I could see if I ripped up and down the street but I open my garage door, start the truck, back out, close my garage door and drive away = 2 minutes tops!!!

I would put a sign in my front yard. "Whoever it was who call the cops on me and my awesome Cummins powered pickup truck, can kiss my hind end".

I wouldn't change a thing. Get whatever testing needs to be done to prove you're within the law. Maybe contact MBRP for some testing data with regards to decibel levels.

JD might be on to something here. Have a bombing party at your place. Find a mobile dyno so you can really get your point across.

It's probably cause you have that Cummings motor.

The Cummins would be better I think.

Sounds like you've got an oversensitive neighbor with a close friend on the police force. If you're no louder than stock and being courteous while driving in the area, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless they can quote some hard numbers that you have to violate, loud is just subjective.

I guess I've just lucked into having good neighbors. I park in my garage at my apartment and I know there is a unit directly on the other side of the wall in front of the truck. But I've never heard a word from the people that live there. And I come in late and leave early at times. And I know it makes noise, because I've been upstairs in my apartment above the garage with the truck running and you can hear it. But when I come and go, I try to make it quick as possible.
