2000 RPM poping/ White Smoke

My pickup starts right up with no throttle after being left overnight in below freezing weather and will idle just fine. My problem is when I take off in first gear it will go just fine till about 1800-2000 RPM then it feels like it cuts out and just starts rollin the white smoke out then around 2400 it quits and runs good. The majority of the time it will do it at the same RPM is 2nd as well then quits about 2400. After the very first time I go throgh first and second it wont do it again. It clears up after the first two shifts. I already replaced fuel filter, prefilter, and fuel lines. It doesnt matter how long i let it warm up, it first started this spring. I could let it warm up for 10, 15, or plus minutes and it would still do it in first and second then clear right up. I'm out of ideas. Has this ever happened to any of you guys? Or what do you suggest checking next. I'm not loosing prime though, so I dont think its and overflow valve, but I dont know. Any Input would be greatly appreciated.

Mine does the same thing, although i beleive that i have a bad injector, but it does it only once or twice then its good.

95 reg cab long bed

Mine does the same when I rev it at idle when cold. Clears up when I throw it in gear.

Has anyone been able to fix this problem with adjusting timing or anything else?

Mine did EXACTY what you guys discribe. When I got the timming bumped up to 15* it compleaty cured the problem. Also the mechanic told me it was at 8* before he adjusted it.

Mine was the same when stock. Timing slipped. Retimed to 15. Replaced Overflow valve at same time. Fixed all white smoke/sputters in the winter.

While i was in there, got the kdp fixed, replaced the lift pump cause it had bad pressure, replaced the supply/return rubber fuel lines (all trucks leak), replaced the solenoid relay (was causing to crank longer than normal), cleaned the solenoid wire to the battery. Then a valve adjustment job also.

Trucks been like this for 4 years now, not a lick of a sputter problem since.

my truck has done the same thing before-but only when it was cold in the morning going to work-quit after a mile or so. Is the timing something that I can check. I've work on autos all my life-just never a diesel? I have an inductive timing light, but would that work?? not sure how-must be another way Chuck
