2000 front axle in 96?

anyone know if this a straight bolt in? probably more specific would be if the gear chunk will fit from housing to housing as I would need to install my gears in the 2000 axle. . The 2000 had 2 piston calipers hence the need for change.

if no idea on that, does anyone know of a place to get an adaptor to use the larger brakes on a 96?

thanks

lewis

I think you might even need 17" or larger rims for this one.. I think the brake caliper sits a bit higher on the later 2nd gen.

My stock rims fit fine on an 01 , no problems there...

I don't know if it was 2000 , or 2001 , but the steering knuckles changed a little, other than that , make sure you get the right front axle , dana 60's came under the front of some SRW trucks, your DRW would have had a D70, the gears will not swap from a 60 to a 70 or vice versa.

Why not just swap knuckles? It was around 02 IIRC that the knuckles went to the AAM style like on the 3rd gens. Then you don't have to mess changing frontends and swapping gears. I'm also pretty sure the duallies came with a 60 up front. I thought it was only the old dodges and new topkick/kodiaks that have the 70's in front.

according to the dodge dealer, the 94-97 dana 60 front end is the same. after that different. I asked for part numbers on the knuckles, ball joints, so I dont think they bolt up directly. I have my front end completely apart to replace bushings, tie rods, ball joints, etc... so now is a good time to investigate this. those 2 piston calipers sure look nice
