20 inch rims and tires
This spring I want to put new rims and tires on my truck. I want to put on 20" rims, and a 305 50 20 tire. I have been looking at the Eagle Alloys 114. It comes with a 5 and something bs. The reason I picked that tire size is that I dont want to screw up my gear ratio.
Any thoughs about rims, or tires would be greatly appreciated, and pics would be awesome too,

Here's a pic of of some nice dirty 20" Motometals, I had 35" Mickey Thompson's on it but it rubbed a little too hard for me. I didn't want to lift it any higher or it wouldn't fit in my garage. Getting chilly up there again?

Hey bro you know my view on big rims...They need big rubber to look "Right"
I think that 20's with anything less then 37's look too low profile SUV pimp status...I guess a few trucks can get away with 35's on 20's but definetly not 33's like your asking about.
If your truck was going for them more street style with a lower look like some of the lowered chevy 4x4's I'd say go for it but otherwise I say nay.
The ideal ratios for my personal taste are
18" rim 35" tire
20" rim 37" tire
22" rim 40"+
Dont worry about your ratio's Heck I just took my 35" toyos off to go to the track and hated how how the rpms were on the freeway with the stockers. I even have 3.73's and I still running at 23-2400 rpm while with the 35's Im at a much lower 18-1900rpm.
Here's a pic of the 18" Eagle 114's with 35" Toyos. Dont worry you dont need a lift and Ive seen other pics of this guy's truck with the same rims and tires w/o a lift

Look in my photo gallery for pics of 20" eagle 114's with 305/55/20 nittos. I'm running the 10" wide wheels with 4 5/8" bs. If you do the 8" wheel with ~5 1/2" bs you could run 35's with only a leveling kit.

i ended up fitting 33x13.5R20 (325/50R20) baja claw radials on mine, and i run them on 20x10 voodoo wheels with 4.5" backspace. I have yet to rub them, and they look awesome! I did notice a LARGE drop in fuel mileage though
. But well worth the look. They stick out of the fender about 4-5 inches.

I want to make sure that I dont stick out past the wheel wells, which from what i understand takes somewheres between 5.5 to 6 inches of bs, is that correct? Hey Eric, you dont happen to know the bs of those 114's on that fellows truck?

Kevin, I wouldn't go w/ the 305/50s, unless you've seen a 4x4 w/ them and like that look. They seem alot smaller than my 305/55/20s IMO. Kinda looks like a lowrider w/ lots of wheel well. THere was a Dieseltruck magazine w/ a tan Dodge 4x4 running 305/50s either last issue or the one before.

The reason I am looking at that particular size is just all to do with gear ratios.... I am scared to screw up my present gear ratios, if I go to a taller tire it will decrease my rpm too much while towing. I have a problem when pulling my trailer that at 1950 rpm in overdrive the turbo will start to bark. I have greatly increased HP since the last time I towed, to keep it above that 1950 mark, if I increase the tire size it will put me back to that danger point again.,

Well, in all honesty, I would stay away from 20s then, I didn't mention how much rougher they ride. The shorter sidewall is very obvious in ride quality. This is also very noticable towing heavy. Adding and removing air from 20s doesn't really work like most tire sizes. I've tried both Nittos and Toyos and they both ride crappy compared to my 17s, but the things we sacrifice for looks right?

One of the big reasons I got thinking 20" is that when they are available I would like to put on a big brake kit on my truck. hence the need for 20's,, but maybe I can get away with 18's and scrap the brake idea
