2 Micron filter mounting options
I was looking at buying the GDP kit or assembling the parts to make my own setup. My question is about mounting the filter. GDP offers three mounting options: Intake horn, cylinder head, and remote mount. I'd read elsewhere that filters would work more effectively when not subjected to the vibration of the engine, but GDP recommends an upgraded fuel system to use all 20 feet of their line. Has anyone made a bracket to remote mount the filter off the shock tower or possibly the brake master cylinder bracket? There is plenty of room for the filter there.
If I do my own setup I'd end up getting the stainless 12mm to -6AN adapters and 12mm sealing washers from GDP, but finding everything else locally.

I just ordered my filter base on Thursday and hope to get it on Monday. From that point I will decide where I want to mount it and route all my lines in an orderly fashion. After Im done your more than welcome to come on over and see what you think. If you like it I can tell you exactly what I did and maybe even make you a bracket for mounting (if you piece your own together). I will keep you posted if you want.

I just ordered the GDP big line cylinder head mount kit yesterday. Figured its good to keep the extra lines short as possible. I hope vibration isn't enough of an issue to really make any difference over time.

there is a ten times better way to do it. series a wix 24348 filter separator with a 33528 2 micron filter. mount it just forward of the fuel tank cut the line from the tank at this point and connect to filters leave the stock filter in the housing for safety. the napa base for 1st filter is 4768 and second is 4770

I'm still going to leave the stock filter in the housing. I was looking to put the 2 micron cat filter after the stock filter so the stock filter can still do something, and possibly add the water separator back near the tank later.

So you're sending 2 micron filtered fuel to the stock filter now. You do all your filtering in front of the fuel tank. Any problems with cold weather and gelling with exposed filters?

I guess I don't understand--you have a 2 micron filter between the tank and the stock filter, which is probably either 5 or 7 micron. So you run the fuel through a 2 micron first then it goes through a 5 or 7 micron stock filter--isn't that backwards??? Wouldn't you want the 5 or 7 micron first then filter it down more when it goes through the 2 micron?????

I plan to put the 2 micron filter after a fuel/water seperator and then to the original filter. I do not want to break into the line after the original filter with possible introduction of large particles into the CP3. Although I did connect my fuel pressure guage before the CP3.
The 2 micron filter will do its job and the original filter is a safety backup.
I am not concerned about gelling as I do not plan to operate in sub-zero temps.

the wix 24348 is a very high capacity 10 micron filter with a water separator the 33528 is the cat 2 micron filter with this setup you do not need the stock filter but i like the idea of a 7 micron filter just before the cp3, the stock filter will never have to be changed. the cost of both wix filters is about the same as the cost of 1 stock filter. we use the 24348 on our transfer tanks and is usually good for about 36,000 gallons between changes. the 33528 last about 100,000 miles on the large engines, i would think it should last 3 to four hundred thousand on the 5.9. only have 72,000 miles on this particular setup so far but is working perfectly with no drop in fuel pressure. it is the same 7 psi as it was stock.

Looked at the WIX site. It says that the 33528 has a 2 micron nominal rating. Isn't the Cat 1R-0750 a 2 micron absolute filter? If that is the case, are these filters really the same? Don't shoot me. Just asking questions and trying to be better informed.
