1st Trip to the Dealer for my 2003 - FYI

I just thought I'd let you guys know of my first major repair of my early 2003. I can't complain about this truck one bit. I bought it in October 2002 and currently have a little over 114,000 miles on it and last Monday was the first time it's been back to the dealer for anything I consider "major".

For about 6 months I was experiencing what seemed to me as fuel pump problems. The problem was never consistent, so it was hard showing anything what it was doing. I would be driving down the road and hit the go-pedal and it would lag before the speed increased. Whether starting from a dead stop or going 70 mph, it would lag like it wasn't getting any fuel. It would only happen 2-3 days per month and all other times it would run like a bat outta hell. Then I started thinking it was from all the power modules I have been running....Edge EZ for about 20,000 miles, then switching to Quad's XZT for about 15,000 and now with the Smarty. I couldn't figure it out! Then last Sunday it was doing it all day long - with or without the Smarty, so I took it in to the dealer the next day.

Well, come to find out, it was the what the dealer calls an A.P.P. Sensor. (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor). And that little sucker only costs about $400 bucks!

Oh, and they also did a valve adjustment which was only $200.00. They told me that I should have one done every 100,000 miles. Is that true?? So with labor added, the lovely bill came out to $800.92 - nice huh?

But like I say, being that it was the first major repair I've had to do on this truck, so I really can't complain.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you guys in case you ever experience anything like this.

Cheers!
-Brian

I had a similar problem and symptoms with the sensor on the go pedal in my 97 Furd, just a shot of electrical contact cleaner and it cleared right up, good as new throttle response and no lag. Just something to try next time.

Great to hear that you had such a long trouble free history with your rig, makes me feel that I made the right move selling my 97 F350 and grabbing a 2007 last generation 5.9
