1st gen exhaust...
I'd like to see some pics and/or videos of custom exhaust setups on 1st gen rams...need ideas for mine. Thinking about just hacking the stock pipe off just behind the T case and opening it up to 4" with a 45* side exit just before the rear tire, I would really like to go 4" right from the turbo but can't seem to find a 4" downpipe and it gets pretty tight going around the T case, I doubt the local exhaust shop would do it for me...any suggestions?

Stansheaders.com has 4" dp and back system for our trucks. I bought my 4" exhaust before finding this, so Im fabbing my own 4" dp, which is an option too. Ill be doing mine this weekend or the next, and can get pics up then. There are several on here though that have done their entire system on their own.

If it has the original exhaust it will have a factory tweak right at the transfer case. You definately want to get rid of that. Mine was down to about 2.5 inches. Stan's fits nicely but even with the muffler is a bit louder than I would have liked.

Rip Rook at www.sourceautomotive.biz Is where I bought my 4" downpipe from.
DONT run the exhaust out in front of the rear tire, it drones terribly. Thats how I ran mine at first before going to stacks. A turn down tip helps a lot, but not enough.
First setup:
6" stacks:

Thanks for the replies & pics...I'll check out the stan's 4" system. I wasn't planning to run a muffler at all but I might go with an aero turbine 4040, they're supposed to lower EGTs a bit somehow and I have the 3030 on my '03 Hemi and I like it. I would consider stacks but I am going to have my dog in the back of the truck alot and don't want him to get burnt, sick and covered in soot.

I'm running stan's system without a muffler. I absolutely love it. It's nice and loud and sounds great, but once you close the windows... you can't hear it. So you get the best of both worlds. Here's a couple vids my buddy took of my pickup. A start up and idle so you can hear the sound quality, and a hard pull up to 90mph so you can hear what the turbo and everything sounds like too. (I might be showing off a bit too )

I made my own 4" turbo back and didn't have to cut up the A/C box. when I put in my Allison I added a 3" body lift and Made a new 5" turbo back still with no cutting. I could have made the 5" work at almost stock hight. It just takes some knowhow and time.

I do want to point out there are other folks who make systems. Not that I am against Stan's at all, Just giving out options here.
Rip Rook also makes a system, as does Bully Dog, Bully Dog however doesent include a 4" dp though. Im not sure on Rip either, but u can ask him.
Heres a link to the Bully Dog kit (its dirt cheap too):

I do recommend a 4" dp for every truck, stock or modified. It is a huge improvement.
Also on that muffler u mentioned, it'll drop EGT's (if they say so) on a STOCK exhaust system, by just simply replacing the stock muffler, with that muffler. One u modify the exhaust, ie. 4", and then add it in the mix, it will not drop EGT's even further.
