1st Gen and Camper Question

How big (heavy) of a camper can I safely put on a 93 D250.

I was told by a dealert that i shouldn't go with one with popouts or that extended much over the back.

I will be towing a boat (3500lbs)

I have air bags already, what else would I need to make it ride correct.

Thanks in advance.

I had a 10.5ft 1600# camper on my '92 W250 and pulled a car trailer with a jeep on it(6000#). I was right at my weight limit(maybe even a bit over). I did the chevy 1 ton brake conversion on the back and added a 2" AAL in the front and airbagged the rear.

Handled it fine but the engine temps got hot on hills, may have had the timing on the pump pushed up too far. Also had blew out the stock flexplate towing this heavy, put a 2nd gen one in as well as an upgraded torque convertor.

With all that done it handled well and got 14mpg loaded. Even had the trailer brakes go out on me once coming into Radium BC and the truck brakes controlled the load all the way down no problem.

Watch how much over hang you have on the camper if towing a trailer, the corners of the camper can contact the trailer on sharp turns. This can be corrected with a hitch extension but that lowers your hitch capacity.
