1st Death Wobble Experience - Kore SS

OK, have mods in sig....no new components other than a Kore Steering Stabilizer (was free, but also used by someone else)....never even had a hint of death wobble before, when i first got the Kore Unit on, i noticed some shake that wasnt normal on small bumps - it felt loose.....but other than that, no problem....today, getting on it, rough road, death wobble so bad i thought i was going to die 9didnt help i was doing 80mph)....

So for those knowledgable on DW / Steering Stabilizers....could the unit not be filled with ?? (Air / Nitrogen / ??) to a sufficient level, or have been mounted wrong to cause the DW? It's got to be this as the stock SS was perfect...only changes becasue the Kore looks cool and was free, and if all is right is obviously supposed to work better....

Any thoughts from susp guru's?

In my opinion a steering stabilizer is only a bandaid in masking the effects of death wobble. So in your situation, something in your suspension is worn and you had/have the capability of getting DW but your stock stabilizer was obviously keeping it in check. Now that you added what must be a faulty stabilizer has allowed DW to rear it's ugly head. Jmho.

on edit- I run Defiant dual SS and had the slightest hint of DW at times. I have since installed the new Dodge steering setup and Thuren's trackbar. I am driving WITHOUT the stabilzers because I am waiting for Paul Fox to ship me new hardware to get his SS to work with the newer larger diameter steering. And guess what??? My truck drives smoother than it did when I took her off the dealership's lot 5 years ago. This confirmed my idea... The dual SS were masking a really bad DW potential.

i was talking to a guy that works at a shop locally and he states that the "intense shake" or "death wobble" is mostly caused by worn out ball joints, due to the fact that there is play in them. he assured me of that.
anybody know if this may be a considerable statement.

I'd say yes ball joints are one factor to the death wobble equation.

If I had a dollar for every time I read something bad about Moog's current products, I'd have enough to get Carli's joints.

My joints are still good, but when the time comes to do them, Carli's will be what I get, hands down, the best joints on the market.

I have the KORE stabalizer, not a problem. You can get them refilled with nitrogen, go to a suspension shop, they should be able to refill them, try that first. A lot of guys bled them down too far and created problems.

I'm hoping this is the case, as new ball joints, 40k on the truck, and never any real offroad....

If you do a search on "Death Wobble" on this forum or any other Dodge diesel forum you will have enough reading to keep you busy for days. There is almost as many reasons for DW as there are the number of people that write about it. And the same goes for the "cures" for DW. Maybe a good way to look at it is every front end part including your tires and rims could cause DW. Ball joints, tie rod ends, shocks, steering stablizer, steering box, bushings, alignment and on and on and on. Everyone's is different you just have to check your own truck. What might cause yours might not cause mine. My cure might not cure yours. One thing is for certain--when it happens is scares the------out of you and you never want it to happen again and you will always hold the steering wheel a little tighter.

On my 04 duelly I had a experiance at about 75 mph . The problem that I found was bad cupped front tires. It only happened once and has not happened since, I keep my tires rotated and when they start cupping bad, there gone.
