1998 5 speed 12v 4x4 - seemed like accelerator was gradually getting stiffer and suddenly one day it is TOO easy to push.

If it has been sitting a couple weeks and loses fuel prime - and I pump the accelerator any and let off, it sticks partially open for a second.

I haven't tried to find the problem yet, just fielding the question before I get digging.

I had a stiff accelerator pedal too and my fuel shut solenoid wasn't always working.
Turns out my linkages were a rusted up a bit after my truck sat in humid coastal GA for a few months.
Not an answer, but somewhere to start.

My fuel shutoff failed a couple years ago and I converted to a manual push pull cable. As long as I can remember, I have had one broke spring I believe on the side of the AFC. I tried to repair it but next time I looked it was broke again and I could feel no difference.

Going to try to give it a good look this afternoon.

Probably broke 1 of the 2 throttle return springs.

Like was said, sounds like you lost a return spring on the throttle.

Are you pumping the pedal when the truck is off? The way the governor section is designed/built, if you push the pedal with the shutoff is down (its the same as pushing past when the gov arm is against the AFC or fuel plate), it'll be hard until it overcomes springs inside and then it gets easy as the gov arm is no longer moving forward. This is also the reason why the pedal pauses when you let off the pedal with the engine off.

I believe you will find corroded linkage and a broken spring causing the pedal issue.

The loss of prime when parked can be a host of issues, most of them related to the condition of the fuel hoses and the pickup tube in the fuel tank. But, it could be a loose filter or slightly open water drain, or even the transfer pump on the side of the engine may be losing an O-ring and seeping air allowing the fuel to flow back to the tank.

You might want to check if recall B15 has been done yet. Recalls never expire so if it hasn't been done yet they have to give you the parts for free. I would suggest taking your truck into a Dodge dealership and having them run your vin# for recalls not done. No charge to you parts or labor read recall notice.

Throttle return spring.
Some engines have two side by side, other have one inside the other.
$7 each from the dealer or you can rig up a generic hardware or auto pasts store spring.
