1994 CTD wont start sometimes????

Hey Guys,my 94 just started this yesterday...it turns over, but wont start? Finally-I tried manually pumping the lift pump...then it started right up. It did this one more time later in the day. Does mean the l;ift pump is failing? Why would it work if I manually pumped it, but not off the engine. Is there an upgrade for this,or should I get another one. The truck is faily stock with 205,000...just straight pipe and K&N,Thanks,Chuck

It's only done this-no starting thing twice

Check to see your fuel shutoff solenoid is working also. That's what happend with my 3500 about a week after I bought it. It just wouldn't start. It started once, so I shut it off and tried it again. But after that it wouldn't start and had to be replaced. It was acting like it was running when it was turning over, but as soon as I let off the starter it would cut off.

Most common cause of hard starting is the return line in red below being rotted out. It can suck air without leaking fuel. 100% of these hoses will eventually need to be replaced.

over a period of a few years, I've replace the following to fix hard starts, or long cranks.

- new fuel return/supply lines
- new overflow valve
- new lift pump
- re-timed
- new shutdown solenoid
- cleaned blue/orange wire on battery driver side
- new shutdown solenoid relays along firewall
- new Fosters Starter Contacts
