I've seen some write ups like this before and it kinda fits a statement I made last night at the watering hole after a few .
We have worked hard to give/get women equal rights , but they keep giving reasons not to have them .
The perspective being that most of the 2007 stuff seems to me to be from women's perspective of fear & mothering going over board .
Political correctness seems to me to be from a feminine mind set .
Draw this to its logical conclusion " Life is hazardous - Ban it .

Heck even in the 80's when I was going through school, it was 1000 times better than it is now. They didn't have all this crap either. It's amazing how people react to the smallest things now. I remember hearing about a girl who brought a butter knife to school and she was suspended over it. It was in her lunch box and she was going to use it to spread jelly on her unmade sandwich. Ridiculous.

I've also heard of kids being suspended over aspirin. GEEZ.

It's the stupid "No Tolerance" rule!!
It's not there to protect the kids but rather the school administrators. If they discipline on a case by case basis they could get sued for using their judgment.
But with the "No Tolerance" rule they can just site the rule and therefore can't be blamed for favoring or discriminating for or against any one or any group of students.
In other words they don't have to do their job, instead they just cite stupid rules and walk away!![verymad]

Just think what the world would be like if a police officer cited the rules every single time without thinking about it like a school administrator. We would have about 80 million people in jail right now and the lines to the courtroom would be miles long. It's stupid. If you can't use good judgment as a school administrator, then you shouldn't be one. The people who support this kind of policy frustrate me to no end.

I remember back in 96 I would drive my old GMC 1500 to school with a gun rack in the back window. On Fridays my shotgun or my 22' would be hanging in the gun rack when I arrived at school. After school I would leave straight for the hunting cabin to meet dad for a great weekend. Nothing was ever said to me in regards to the guns in the truck till the Columbine incident. I can remember one of my teachers telling me the day after that horrible event that American schools will never be the same. I can also remember carrying around a pocket knife and sitting in class trying to dig out the splinter I recieved working in wood shop. That same wood shop has been removed from that school and since replaced with another computer class.

1996 wasn't that long ago

When I was a kid there was prayer in school, you could buy a gun through the mail, and there weren't school shootings.

Now there is no prayer in school, LOTS of gun control, and school shootings aren't uncommon.

What changed?

I graduated in 1996
Just about every truck in the school parking lot had at least 2 guns.
I remember in the first grade some of us boys brought our BB guns for show in tell could you imagine what would happen now [yuk]
I got in a fistfight in school once Principal took me and the other kid across the street (thought we were getting kicked out for the day) and said ok now fight.

We kept rifles in our unlocked pick-up trucks, right in the window racks on the school parking lot in the mid-60's, and took them to shop class to bed the actions. Then hauled them to a field next door at noon, and sighted them in!

The Superintendent of Schools, a janitor, and a shop teacher were out there with us half the time sighting his in, too! We all hunted, and we enjoyed it!

The entire problem today is the same as with BF Skinner's rats. Crowd everything together and everyone goes nuts. So, lets just encourage more illegal immigration and continue to subsidize uncontrolled population growth with aid to dependent children, so we can continue to degrade our society.

What changed? The media over reported the actions of a few crazed kids giving other kids the idea of how to gain attention.

We don't even have "time outs" up here anymore because it makes the kids feel bad and they will take them away. Yet I can make crystal meth and sell coke out of my house (my neighbor does it for the last 5 years) with 2 small kids in there and social services says there are worse cases out there. I asked them to explain how spanking a kid and making him behave is worse than dealing drugs out of my house.

They hung up on me.

I really believe them pulling the Pledge Of Allegiance out of school was a bad idea too. Like was said before, you cant even think of offending someone in any way, shape or form.

Dont forget the scenario where Mark had the Aspirin in school and now has a drug charge on his record. Now Mark can never own a firearm because of The Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act. You would not believe how many guys at the gun shop get turned down because of it. Just 1 more right they are sneaking from us out the back door.
