I think you're right about the tire size. I have considered this size for my stock height '98. (if I ever switch to a 17" wheel)
I cant say for sure, but the backspacing on the '03 and up 17" wheels is around 6.25", and they are also 8" wide or so. That may cause tire rubbing on your radius arms. maybe someone who is running this setup will chime in.

i'm not running stock 3rd gen wheels... i have alcoa classics w/ 285/70/17s & had to remove my nerf bars (previously running stockers w/ 285s w/o any issues)... the backspacing on my setup caused the rubbing... i have a leveling kit, so if you are stock, i would definitely check fit prior to purchasing

So what would the offset be on stock 16"ers? The guy I bought truck from swapped the 16's for the 17's on his new truck...... he got sticker shock at the price of 17" tires. So I don't have any 16's to measure. Thanks, Nate
Also If I need to level her out I guess I'll cross that bridge later.

Stock Steel wheels: 16X6.5 w/ 4.75" backspace.
Aftermarket wheels on 2nd gens usually 16 or 17X8 w/ 4.5" backspace stick out just a bit too much in my opinion.
Closest Ive seen that sit right is a 17X8 or 17X9 w/ 5" or 5.5" of backspace.
(I will go w/ a 17" as opposed to a 16" because of the size of my rear drum Brakes)

We have a 98 With 3rd Gen wheels, 35's and with a leveling kit up front it will rub the control arms at full lock.

mosephus, what is width on those 35's? the 295/70/17's i'm looking at end up to be 33x 11.5 a 285/75/17 ends up 34x 11.5 and a 265/70 /17 ends up 32x 10.5 on toyo's website. those are the same rims I have now. thanks. Nate
