16cm or 14 cm non WG housing?
For a 92' 5 speed DRW 2wd with stock injectors and "beefed up" VE pump which would be better. Right now it takes forever to spool. My dad does some towing with this truck under 8k, but it is mostly used for highway driving. Since the housing will be a gift I am not going to spend the money on a WG housing. lol He is addicted to power though but will never get bigger injectors. Its strait piped and BHAF.

If he's going to stick to stock injectors then I'd say round up a 12cm wastegated housing. Should be able to find one for cheap or for a little more you could probably round up a good used WH1C or HX35 with the 12cm WG already attached and just swap the turbo and more or short the downpipe an inch.

What ever u get, get wastegated. If hes really addicted to power you'll regret not getting a wastegated housing. His headgasket will thank you!

With stock injectors, uless he cranks up the pump to 200+ CC of fuel, he wont need the wastegate. With the 60/12 I have on my truck now, I can only get to the lower 30s in 4th and 5th gear, and I have 120cc.

I agree, and on my WH1C with the wastegate blocked I was pushin 37 with room for more fuel on my screw too.
But i guess it depends on the truck, Probably just better safe then sorry.

I turned the fuel screw in 3+ turns and the timing is maxed nearly touching the block. If I would be safe running a 14cm non W/G then thats what I would get. Will a 12cm non W/G make too much boost and hold the power back up top?
How much power will it gain going from the 21cm to a 14cm or 12cm? It smokes like a train till just before you shift right now so there is some real fuel waiting to be burned.

The freight train smoke can also be bad injectors not atomizing fuel. Could also be over fuelled and under turboed.
Going from a 21 to a 12 is a winter night to summer day difference, and then some. It will likely give you LOTS more bottom end, as it sounds like you have the fuel for it. I put on a HX35/40 hybrid with a 12cm housing, and the smoke is gone except for a tiny puff if I get on it hard. I would hook up the wastegate and set it for the upper limit of the turbo's efficiency range- 26-28 for H1C; 35-37 for an HX35.

The 14 is likely to make too much boost. The 12 wastegated will allow you to control the boost. With stock intercooled injectors you can't beat the 12 cm, especially on a stick truck.

My question would be whether or not you have a 3200 governor spring in that pump. I think the 16 housing is the best all around housing for hotrodding. If you are going with nonwastegated housing then a 14 would be OK if you dont have the governor spring and you do have stock nozzles. Once you start reving the engine and putting the fuel to it you need to stay with a 16 housing or go with a wastegated unit.
