12v mods advice
With my 97 ctd truck, it is currently stock, besides replacing the clutch, putting stacks in, and refreshing the pump. I already have gauges, and so far 600$ to spend in mods. I want power to pull loads, plenty of torque, and plenty of smoke. What are the best free mods, and ones that will total at 600$?

You said you already did the pump mods? If "refreshing the pump" means playing with the afc, starwheel, plate, etc then you've pretty much exhausted all the "free" performance mods.
Theres a plethora of designs for air intakes that will cost you under $100, take your pick.
You can always buy a plate, the cut is up to you. $30 ebay plates work just as well as the $220 ones. If you're going for performance Id say #0 plate. But I believe most guys who tow use a #10 or #100 but I could be wrong. What kind of clutch are you running? Is it a just a stock hp rated clutch? If so Id recommend getting a South bend or other higher hp rated clutch. Back to performance Id go with the plate, 3gsk or 4gsk, and remember if you go with the 4gsk you need the HD springs along with that. I believe with the HD springs its right around $220 for the 4gsk. Those things along with the pump mods are going to wake that puppy up. Then theres wastegating your turbo, bigger exhaust, DV's, injectors, turbos and the list goes on.
Some other guys who are much more knowledgable then myself will most likely chime in here but I think the intake $100, plate$30, 4gsk w/HD springs$226, wastegate$30, and say a 4"-5"straight piped exhaust$??? you'll come in under or around $600 depending on where and how cheap you can find piping. By the way, Welcome to DTR! For future reference and questions learn to use the search tool, instead of waiting for other guys to answer you might be asking the exact same question some other guy asked and BAM! Theres all your answers! Good luck man

If they are meaning intake horns, save your money. Aren't worth the change to get them IMHO.. Your intake filter setup is just fine from the photos I have seen though I don't particularly care for brick filters and their ability to seal to the box.
