12V engine troubles
12V guys. I have very little 12v knowledge, but maybe some of you can help. I copped this from a local forum trying to get somebody some help.
I'm going to send them a link to this page so they can check it.
Story: About a 90 Dodge with intercooled Cummins quit running. A local mechanic took the injection pump off and had it rebuilt. He got it back together and it idles OK but the engine misses when the rpm is raised to 1200?+. It smokes out the pipe at that time, a raw fuel smoke. If you hold it on the governor it misses terribly and smokes HUGE plumes. Disconnecting individual injectors does not kill the smoke, hardly changes it at all IMO. That makes me think the problem is on all cylinders which excluds injectors. The smoke diminishes a little under load, but the miss is still there and power is down a little.
The mechanic has double checked the pump timing marks (on the geartrain) and they're OK.
Does anyone know any issues that could cause this? Or could someone post this on a diesel forum?
Thanks.

Head gasket... Thats my call or the head is cracked. The early 6BT's have 9mm injectors and the heads are prone to cracking between the exhaust valve and the injector hole.
