12V basic questions with a Ford Slant....
I have come to the 12v forum to ask a few questions..I am very pleased with my 01 F350 CC 4x4 srw 7.3 Truck..cab is great, brakes are good and power is fine..all with 249k miles ... (my 99 had 508K) however..I get 12-14 mpg, best ever was 17, cruise set on 65 for 600+ miles. (truck is 3.73 geared with 35" tires and loaded with tools probably weighs 8500 to 9000 all the time and is an automatic, I drive about 75 mph) I am considering swapping in a 12v because I hear about good mileage. What are yall getting for fuel economy with similar combos? What are the best mods for fuel economy and decent power? I am assuming my truck has apx 275 to 290 rwhp (it has cold air, 4" ex and 40/80/120 chip) and would need to stay at that level at least. I'd love to hear from yall. My Freightliner FL60 got 13 mpg with its 5.9 and it weighed almost 14k.. so I am hoping this is worth doing. I plan on using my existing 4r100 transmission. I am sticking with the 12v most likely for simplicity and availability. Your input is appreciated. Rob

Glad to here that you're thinking of switching medicine! Unloaded highway with my 94' cruising 75 I can do 23mpg with ease. worst I ever got was bed loaded with gear going into the mountains and I got an average of 15mpg. Your truck is a little heavier so you may get a little worse. Thats just me converting from canadian, others may say different. Good Luck!
