12v Auto with 4.10 gears.....Input from those who have this setup needed.

I want to get some input from those of u who have this setup. Now that I have driven the truck more, I towed my trailer around and didn't even know it was back there except hearing it. But when your not loaded, it seems that you don't have good acceleration until about 45mph, than it has crazy power and can pull away from anything (relatively speaking, lol). Is that how ur guy's are to? I love the low gears when the trailer's hooked up, so I guess thats what you have to deal with when ur not loaded, right?

yea, the way it's geared the power really plants in 4th gear, but the first couple you can't really boost like that, but it's great for towing. I'm gonna plan way ahead for a nv4500 swap, I think i'm gonna buy the first wrecked 5 spd I find and keep it until the time comes.

I was thinking of doing the same thing but haven't fully decided yet. I might go with a built auto (goerend) or at least a VB and TC or swap in a five speed, i'd rather have a stick but having trouble finding a donor truck. I hear from others on here that a little tranny work really makes a big difference. I'm getting some shutter when towing now so should do something soon.

even with 3.54's they don't pull good they get locked up in OD... get you a real converter in there, and it'll be a whole new machine!

I'd still swap 3.54's in it though

well i'm gonna be doing alot of towing so the 4.10's will be good. But I think a TC and VB should be priority for the time being. I need to do some research on that because i'm not real sure what to get.

The reason you are feeling all the power in overdrive is because that is when the converter locks. The stock converter doesent put hardly any power down until it lockes in overdrive. A good converter will give you the pull you have in overdrive in every gear

When I hit the OD/off switch it locks up in 3rd gear so thats good for more city driving, but still the first 2 gears are useless unless i'm towing.

What TC would u reccomend for someone not really wanting a ton of power, but just wanting to be able to put the power I have to the ground in all gears!

I would go with a Goerend Single disc. I had one, and it was great for putting the power down, just the lockup clutch wasnt stout enough for a lot of power. Id say with a Goerend VB, and single disc converter, 350hp wouldnt be a problem, but I only had a transgo shift kit, and I could slip it just a little in overdrive. It was a great converter though. I paid $650 for mine, and it came with a 100k mile warranty.

Yep thats how my truck is too. RPMS get up there quicker for better spool up. I can pass cars with ease. I had 3.54's in my other CTD and I had to get a running start to get around anything. And theres nothin like the lower gears for pulling. The only set back for me is MPG. I got 21 MPG with the 3.54's and I'm doing just a bit better then 15 MPG's with the 4.10's. I don't really understand this because I drive by RPM. 1750 @ 55 mph with 4.10's and 1750 @ 65 mph with the 3.54's. I'm gonna bump the timing up this spring maybe that will help.

I have the setup you speak of, works good but I'm going to 3.54s for sled pulling.

"for now"... being the key words, lol. I have this bombing bug bad since I see all these guys with mods and pushing all that power. I know the truck has so much potential, but the tranny just has me confused on what I should do. I'm gonna grind a 10 plate and see how it reacts and go from there. I really only want about 240hp maybe 640tq or so since I tow alot and don't want the EGTs to skyrocket. Just a plate won't get me there, but it's a start.

Yup the tranny's what I'm worried about, if your going that route I think a good TC and valve body would be the ticket

DDT is very close to you and have heard nothing but good about them my buddy loves his trany from them http://www.dieseltrans.com/

I see your in Bellingham I have recreaction property in Maple Falls near Mt Baker
