12 vavle head on sunnen surface mill

JUST DID MY HEAD @ A BUDDY'S SHOP ( FIGGA MACHINE SOUTH NJ ) IT TOOK 015 TO CLEAN UP . WENT TO CUMMNIS TODAY AND SPENT 269.00 FOR UPPER SET AND WAS TOLD TO GO WITH STANDARD THICKNESS , IS THAT THE CORRECT CHOICE FOR TAKING 015 OFF HEAD ?

Since the head is flat, it won't change compression running a standard thickness gasket. It will change the valve depth and injector depth, which may cause piston-valve interference if running an after market cam or even the lash too tight. If you run a thicker gasket, you'll be dropping compression. Best thing to do would to have a valve job done so they are recessed further into the head. Then you would also have to adjust valve spring seat pressure, as it would decrease.

Thanks!! I decided not to touch valves , we removed and I had zero issues before head gasket started leaking . So if I install after I just shaved 015 off head with stock gaskit I will have bent valves ?

I'm not saying you will, but your valves will now be .015" closer to the pistons than what they used to be. There should be .050" or so clearance between them when factory, so now you could be in the .035" range. Still clearance, but getting out of the comfortable range.

If your future plans include a cam, then yes a thicker gasket might be a good idea.

I would not run the over gasket, personally I would have the valves sunk the additional .015 if I were too worried. I don't think you will have an issue.
