12 Valve Value and Availability
Anyone notice the extremely higher prices and low availability of 12 valves in the last year plus? ****, i signed onto autotrader today to check it out - there are THREE 12 valve trucks (4x4 Manual) within 500 miles of me - all with over 200K and all over 12 grand in price .... I can remember looking at older trucks in 05 and 06 and seeing lower mileaged trucks going for 7 or 8 grand? Apparently it's a good time to own a 12 valve - people are showing how sick of computers, emissions regulations, and other nonsense they really are. If anyones within 300 miles of Scranton, PA and has one for sale -- I'm looking

Yep, glad I got mine when I did......Now all I have to do is convince my brother in law to sell me his 97 farm truck when he is done with it.
My dealer buddy was trying to slide me out of mine, which he sold to me last January for 12K. He just shook his head when I told him it would take 15K for me to let go of it.

I bought my 12V for 15 000 1 old guy owner (eastate sale bought from his son) with under 100 000K miles. Needed a new seat as he weighed like 400 lbs body a little dented and paint scrached but overall GD condition. Looked for 2 over years to get the Quad auto SB 4x4 model

I just bought mine in november that was a 1 owner with 208k and gave $8k for it and I think it was the best money I've ever spent. I recommend you widen your search area you can find more trucks if you look all over the country and they seem to be cheaper, rust free, and plentiful in Texas and down south. You can get a plane ticket for like $300 to anywhere in the country and drive one home. I drove over 700 miles to get mine and have no regrets. Good Luck finding one

97 for 23K
One of the dealerships in my area has a real nice 97 Club Cab, Auto, with 38,000 miles. Beautiful truck and they want 23 grand for it; won't budge on the price either. I bought my 97 new for not much more than that! I'm guessing they will get what they want for it.

That's nice low miles, but I would want to see LOTS of documentation. 23k is absurd!!

More 12v's are ending up in junkyards as they rust and rot out. That just shortens the supply and honestly they don't make them like they used to. Nowadays you got all the electronics and emissions on the new trucks. Not saying the new ones are bad but what engine can you throw waste motor oil in and feel good about it?

Search, search, search. They are out there. I found both of my 12V's in Utah, not in AZ. they want too much here. My donor for my RCC was the only local truck I picked up.

confused...
I have some confusion as far as 1st and 2nd generation and 12v versus 24 v.
If I understand it right, all 1st generations (prior to 1994) are 12v.
2nd generations can be 12v or 24 v. How do you tell the difference?
What is a late model 12v and an early model 24?
How do you tell what HP the motor is? I was told mine is 175
I bought my 95 dually 3500 in 8/2005 for 9k w/173k on it. (currently has 186k)
From what I am reading here, I am crazy to be thinking about getting a newer one. (my trans is questionable and I was thinking of getting a newer truck rather than spending the money on the trans)

2nd gen 12v is from 1994-1998. 24v is from 1998.5 to 2002. 1st gen 12v and 2nd gen 12v have lots of little differences. Here are the differences from Dodgeram.org:
In 1994:
* Inline Bosch P7100 injector pump for higher injection pressure an more precise timing
o 52 pound pump required stronger and wider gear housing for support
* Fuel lines redesigned for higher injector pump output
* Fuel filter relocated from a head casting to an intake manifold bracket
* Piston rigs moved up - top ring changed from 14 mm to 8 mm from piston top to reduce "dead space" and cut
* Piston pin bore and connecting rod bushing reduced to tighten piston / pin / rod clearance
* To withstand increased load from valve train:
o Camshaft material changed from chilled iron to chilled ductile iron
o Cam lobes widened, lobes machined for finer surface finish
o camshaft tappet faces hardened
* Wastegate added to H1C turbocharger (WH1C), 12 cm turbo housing replaces 18 cm housing
* Filter Minder add to indicate intake restriction
* Catalytic converter added after Jan 1, 1994
* Clutch weight reduced and clutch engagement improved
* larger harmonic balancer used on 175 hp crankshaft
* prop shaft damper added to reduce drive train pulses
I would not give up my 12v for any newer truck. Yes the interior is nicer in new trucks but if it bothered me I'd just restore it.
