12 valve IP quetion

A friend of mine has a 1st Gen 93 Dodge Ram and he asked if it was possible to replace his IP with one from a 2nd Gen. His truck has a few miles on it and I believe he would like to either rebuild the existing one or try to install one from and 2nd Gen truck. I have heard a few different opinions on this subject. Has anyone tried it or heard of someone who did? Thanks in advance.

berner and TxDiesel007 thanks for the information. It sounds like it is doable but probably not done very often. TxDiesel007, let me know if you find that truck that did the swap. I may have to PM 65fury to find out whether he did an engine swap or just the IP. Thanks again for all your help.

you will need the front timing cover, pump, pump gear, injector lines, injectors, and lift pump, also the 93 head is not notched for the p-pump this can be done with alot of grinding, and you will more than likley have to change your mastercylider to a new style with plastic resivor the p-pump is alot longer and its pretty tight... if u want big power then thats the only way to go (wish mine had one)....

Thanks

Riesenbr549, thank you for the information. My friend has had this '93 Dodge for a few years and this spring he is taking it in to a Cummins shop for a refresh, gettting the valves adjusted, fuel system tweaked, etc... This truck if I remember correctly only has 120,000 maybe less so it's young as far as Diesels go. I appreciate everyones input and I'll be sure to pass the information along. If he does go through with this I'll be sure and post how he did it along with some pics.
