Hi guys ... It's 40 degree's out by me ... I ran out to fuel up the 12 valve and I noticed the stock temp gauge ...I know there crap ... the temp was around 170 siting at a light and soon as i got moven the normal just below 190 was right there .
Soon as I hit the light again back down to 170 ...it has a new temp sender ...I have not run the truck in cold weather since last year so it's hard to remember it that was the norm ...it seem fine ...this truck has new everything ...coolant level is fine .
It could be the gauge taken a crap ... but it gets right up to temp ...could this and is this normal for the cold weather and should I run a grill cover for the winter ?

they will build up to 190* stay there a minute, then dive down to 140*.

A winter front would help. I know a lot of 1st gen 12v's have the coolant gauge wander---some have found it to be due to a NAPA thermostat and when they replaced it with a Cummins t-stat, the problem went away. I know my t-stat will close just idling in the cold, especially since adding the intercooler. To answer your question, I highly doubt there is something wrong with your truck--just a side effect of a coolant system that was designed for greater things than idling in traffic on a cold day

Yeah that is the norm in the cooler weather. Mine takes a while to even move here in the North. As G1625S said get a winter front for it and it will help.

where would one be able to pick up a winter front???? ive been thinking just about running a 10" wide strip of card board vertically in front of the radiator, but if a winter front is cheap ill just got for that..... i would like to get my truck to warm up a lil quicker in the AM's and this would probably be the easiest solution

Thanks guys ...I have seen the grill covers that has the snaps like the big trucks ... I don't feel need that just yet ...but the snap-in grill inserts would work if I could track them down .
