1/4 mile help, 1st timer

I will be heading to the track saturday and want to know if I should boost launch in 4x4 high and if so how much boost, I want to do some 2wd runs also. I am going to probley run the Revo and not the TNT. I ran the TNT prior to replacing the cp3 and sticks and got some popping so i am kinda affraid to reinstall the TNT. Do you think I should run the TNT. I think I will be ok with it. I dynoed 560 last time on the Revo so what do you think my time will be. Any advice will help. Thanks .

Are you going to race on the 37's? Personally I would not waste my time racing in 2wd. You are producing a considerable amount of HP and it would take a very controlled foot to get a decent 60' time.

Prestage, run her up to 10-15PSI, creep up to full stage and let her rip on the last yellow. Check your slip and see what kind of reaction time you have and work on leaving quicker.

What I love about drag racing is it is what you make of it. If you want to go blast down the track and run a good E/T and not care about your R/T you can. If you want to practice cutting the perfect light, you can do that. Your time slip has a wealth of info on it if you take the time to translate it.

With it being your first time dont try to have too high of expectations. Go there and take in the scenery. Smell the burning rubber and leaded gas fumes. listen to the open headers sing and the blowers whine. If it is in you, you will become a track rat. I also bet your first time at the tree will have you extremely nervous and the jitters will get you.

Sorry for the long post..... I LOVE drag racing

I agree with the above. Run in 4high, leave it in 4wd until you slow down to turn.

I go around the water, don't need it with your tires either.

As soon as I am past the water put it in 4wd and get lined up straight. Then ease into the first pre-stage light. Power brake and slowly build boost until around 10-12psi. Then bump brake to move forward to turn on full staged light. Try to hold the boost steady or building slowing. Then wait on third yellow to light and let her rip.

This does take practice to get comfortable with, so at first I would not worry a lot about the R/T time. Concentrate on getting the boost up to around 12-15psi for launch and see what times that gets you.

I love the track. The more you do it the more fun it becomes.

I go around the burnout box, head for the divider then pull straight. once straight always let the other racer stage first, otherwise youll be sitting their with boiling EGT's while they take their time. Once their staged all the way light your first light. Then jam on the brakes and ease into the throttle untill you get to 15-20PSI. Ease off your breaks very lightly until you get your second light, then jam on them again. For your first time (if using a sportsmans tree) wait for your 3rd light then go (dont wait for green or youll be way behind the game). If your on a pro tree as soon as you see amber punch it. Good luck man! Dont try it in 2wd. I did that one of my first times and almost hit the wall.

Have you tried getting the rear tires hot in the box? I have noticed better 60's with a small burn-out. I do not have any rear traction mods so maybe that is why it works for me. The strip I go to has some gravel, grass etc. in the pit area that sticks on the BFG's and I like to get the most of it off.

I need to take the truck back to the track, I have been racing the car and FWD is absolutely horrible to launch. I like the challenge but everyone there loves the truck, there are very few diesels that run there.

I left mine in 4x4 the whole way the few times I was out. I don't think it will release anyway until you let up on the power, atleast mine won't release until I back out of it and I have the manual 4x4 not the electronic shift if that makes a difference.

All the info. previous is very good. On the burn box, stay out 'cuz you'll just pick up water in your treads, but try to spin the tires to clean 'em up.

You will get hooked on racing!! On every pass you'll want to get quicker, that is if it's in you. I myself stayed away from making a pass of any kind until 2001, (I'm 40 something) I knew once I did the speed bug will bite. I turned my restified car into what I have now. I'm fighting myself on taking my truck down the track, 'cuz it not cheap to get quicker each time out.
GOOD LUCK and have some fun!!! Once you get that adreneline pumping AND get addicted to it, you'll see............

the better results you got switching out of 4wd is just a coincidence, these trucks will NOT switch out of 4wd until your off the power completely, just leave it in 4wd until your near the end of the track, slowing down for the turn.
