08 Fuel Mileage and issues????

I have the truck in the sig below with a couple extras like a banks Intercooler and such. I am seeing some deals on some 08's and I only owe about 10k on my truck with a bad intrest rate. So if I can work a deal and get lower payments and such. How is the 6.7? is the fuel mileage worse or about same? I would think with 6spd Auto it cant be all that bad. I was planning on waiting for an 09 but that new truck is only a 1500 and we have to wait till 10 or 11. I have a feeling Dodge is seperating the body styles like Ford did. So my main concern is how is the fuel mileage. Keep in mind own the pig version of this truck the 325/600 with 4.10 and I have a heavy foot on highway

From what I've been reading on some of these other threads, the 6.7 seems to be getting about 2mpg less than the 5.9.That being said, the guys that own the 6.7 seem to really love the new trans and engine brake. What are some of the incentives being offered by Dodge?Bought my 5.9 in Sept. of 07 got 10k off sticker and a great trade allowance on my Chevy.Couldn't pass up that deal!My first Dodge ever.Love it!

Dealer incentives are $4500.00 right now.

I think with the coming recession/depression, those incentive may get better. There's a big inventory sitting on the lots now, 117 days worth. Dealers who floor plan those vehicles hate to be paying interest on the trucks. With fuel prices high, credit tight, and consumers holding back on purchases, they aren't going to be able to move them unless they do some deep discounting.

I'm ordering one in a couple of months for June delivery. Picking up the truck within a few days of it arriving at the dealer, I expect to get into a lot of that hold back ($1400.00) along with incentives from dealer and factory. If you have money or credit, it's going to be a good time to buy soon.

Yeah thats what I have read rjm But I think if I go over to the 3.73 rear end and the 6spd it will be about the same as my mine. I am thinking of waiting for the presidents day sale to make a move.

I just traded my 06 for a 08 mega cab and got 13,000 bucks off msrp and got 31,000 for my trade which is a little over wholesale for my truck, I paid 33500 for my 06 new so it only cost me 2500 buck to drive my truck for almost 2 years and 20,000 miles. Cant wait to pick it up on Friday.

I have a 2007.5 6.7 wth 3.73 A 4X4 2500 Quad. I average 18 MPG on a tank. With about 25% city the rest highway @ 70 mph average speed. I love it I had a SEMA built Mini Before and this is more fun, less dangerous too. I have the 6 speed auto. My goal is get 30 MPG after mods...

I,finally, got the chance to hook up my 08 2500 Laramie.
The power train is great. The fuel milage is terrible.
Running down I-40 last Tue. and pulling about 12000 lbs
of Cardinal 5th wheel I got a whoping 6.7 mpg. I had to pull in fifth
gear with the tow haul engaged. The winds were westerly at 45-50 mph.
Later in the week, running empty at the speed limits I averaged 18.3.
All numbers are from the overhead. Today pulling east on I-20 I showed
10 mpg.
Again, the power is great. The exhaust brake helps the prodigy shut the
rig down quickly.
I think, however, I'm going to miss my 03 3500 srw SO in every respect
except for the power.

30 MPG keep dreaming. If I wanted to get 30 MPG I would have bought a Honda,Toyota hybrid. Just face it 8.000 lbs truck loaded or not is not going to get the best milage. All in all I love my truck I new it was not the best milage could got the 5.9. Just have to deal with it. And wellcome to the forum CYRATHBUN

I have noticed that a lot of peoples OLD trucks get better mpg the longer they have the new truck. What I mean is that I work for my brother in law and have spent over 290,000 miles in his last 3 truck. It seems like every times he talks about his 03 and 05 ( both SRW 3500 6spd 4x4)they get better mpg than the last time. Soon the 03 will be getting 40+ mpg. but I remember when it was new it got less than 10mpg around town, His new 07 5.9 mega cab DRW 4x4 only gets about 12 empty and as low as 8 loaded. My brothers dose the same so its not just one truck. My 08 6.7 auto pulling the same trailer on a day with 40+ mpg head wind and a lot of around town driving got 9.3 (hand cal) with only 800 miles on it and has got from 13.8-16.2 over the last 1500 miles on it and I hope it dose like most of the other cummins I have been around and keep going up till about 30-40K. I know I don't have a lot of miles on it but I have only had it for 7 days ( and it set for 2 days) so I would say I have put a few miles on it for that amount of time (300 miles a day average). I really like every thing about my new truck. I hope the MPG goes up but the thing is that I NEED, not just WANT a 2500 4X4 Cummins so even if the mpg is not what I would like I am not going to be able to do my jog with out it. I don't mean to sound like I don't care about mpg but I really don't have a lot of choice I need the truck. My 96 on its best day only got 15 mpg empty and about 12 loaded So I think I will be OK. Wish my 96 got the 20+ some guys "clam" to get and make 700Hp at the same time in there 2nd gens. Mine would pull any thing but my needs have changed and so has my choice of trucks.

So in short I would say that I think you would be fine to go with a 6.7 but don't be scared when it gets low mpg when new. I bet if you look back and are honest with your self you will find that your 5.9 was not so great when new. Just in this thread there are 2 guys + me who went from 2nd gen 12valves to 6.7. I stayed up till 2am for 3 nights reading every (and I mean every) post about the 6.7 before I got one and I would advise you to do the same and make up your own mind. From what I saw I think that if you really use your truck and don't just have it to drive around like a Honda Accord most guys have not had any probs. I really think you have to work these trucks to keep the emissions junk clean, and burned out. Also I got over $10K off sticker so Shop around. Good luck.

I would say keep your current truck. You have already paid a lot in interest and won't be saving much on the back end now. Transfering all those goodies or buying new one will set you back more money too.

If the intrest is crappy refinance it. I notice some power differance between my o8 and my moms 07 5.9 but not that much. The 6spd auto is OUTSTANDING to tow with, and the ex. brake works like a dream in tow haul. If you are looking for more power, get more bombs!!

Oh yeah, I am getting about 13-14 town 16-17 hwy and a tick over 10 towing a 10K camp trailer the 180 miles I have towed it so far

I just picked up my 2008 6.7L on Saturday night. I got it at 10 and change off sticker plus an unbeatable value on the trade in(old Tahoe). Couldn't pass it up! Seems to have way more power than my 1998.5. Only put about 80 miles on it so far, all city, computer showing 14.0 MPGs. Really wanting to put on the Smarty to help out!
