07 SLT Low Fuel light
Finally ran my fuel level down on my 07 SLT to abt needles width off Empty.
Figured after 1 year of ownership it was time to check out the 'Low Fuel Warning Light"
Surprise ..it never illuminated!
It does light up in the Ignition ON position, so the bulb's not bad
Hate to have to goto dealer for this.
Anyone else having similar situation?

Yeah, everyone has this feature. Wait till your overhead starts flashing low-fuel low-fuel low-fuel at you and it dings extra.
That's when you need to get to the fuel station .
Generally if prices are dropping on fuel I'll end up running it low, and vice versa when prices are rising... Just something i don't really put much thought into.

So if I understand you, the "Gas Pump" symbol wont come on , until the overhead senses low fuel???
The manual states it should come on when tank gets below 1/8.
Sure not much help when pulling 5th, if this thing warns me as it gets to the last gallon of fuel & I'm in middle of no-place

How many gallons did it take to fill it up when you ran it down to 1/8 tank? When my light comes on it will take me 30 gallons or so. Also my overhead will show about 50 miles to empty. Another thing is when I am low on fuel, back up my driveway and the truck idles for a minute or two the truck low fuel light will come on too. The sensor must be in the back of the tank. I bet you did not run it down enough.

My light comes on at 1/8th tank on the fuel gauge... Overhead will start reading Low Fuel when it reaches 30 miles to empty, which should be well past 1/8th tank

In my old Hemi I could run it all the way to 0 DTE, but in the cummins you won't ever see that.

On my old hemi 1500 it said I had an 8% reserve wich equals 2 gallons when I get to empty. And I've ran that thing dang near out of gas a few times .
On the diesel I try not to let it get to where the low fuel thing flashes on the overhead because it's bad for the lift pump. But I can remember putting over 30 gallons in it.

Fox, Red & others
Dont have the exact figures to fill it, but remember 29+ gals ($102..Ouch)
O/H was down below 60 miles to empty.
Tank takes abt 24-25 gals when I get to 1/4 tank mark, so 'calibration' on gauge is pretty close
Think I'll call dealership since I want to get fog lites installed.
Might as well kill 2 birds at one time & have it checked ,(it'll be my 1st problem)
Thanks to all that replied

Yeah, my fuel light came on leaving work at 62 miles DTE. Right now it's at 42 without having the low-fuel warning on the OH. I was trying to make it a full week on a tank of gas .... Guess I'll fill up in the morning

The light will come on when the fuel volume is about 15% of capacity which is approximately 5.1 gallons. It will come on somewhere BETWEEN E and 1/8 of a tank. When the needle is on E there is still an 8% reserve.
You know what I do when I'm towing or driving a lot. I fill it up before it gets that low. Why rely on a guage that cannot possibly be that accurate.
If you want to know how close you were to actually being empty, fill it up and see how much it took. If you want to know if the light will come on, keep driving.
The DTE will be different for everyone, since it is basing it's calculation on the mileage it is displaying. If you are towing through hills and headwinds, DTE may only be 20 miles. If you are empty driving 55 mph, DTE may be 60+ miles. Keep in mind that these numbers are based on the fact that E still has an 8% reserve (2.8 gallons).

Well, I filled up earlier and I have to say either the pump is off or my OH is off. Without topping it off except to round up to the next dollar it took 32.6 gallons with my OH DTE at 37 miles left... to compound that add 9% to 37 miles since I never changed my odo/speedo after putting 315's on it.
With a shortbed my tank should be 34 gallons?
