07 mega dually
Hey, i was looking at an 07 don't know what motor, automatic trans dually decent tires, what would be a good price? they were asking 29,950 I know i don't have all the details that would help, I think it had 57K miles on it. Also people with the megas how do you like the short box? To me you put a tool box in the back or stacks and you don't have any room for anything else. Theres a company doing long bed conversions but the price tag for thats around 6 grand i think. Also how does the truck ride same as a regular 4door dually? I'd assume so. I'd have probably test drove the truck but i showed up on sunday.

That seems high to me. I paid 27500 for my 06 Mega SRW 3500 back in April with 6,400 miles on it. Adding DRW and even if it is 4x4 unless it is a Laramie edition with full Navaigation and leather should it be that much with that many miles. The diesel market is way to soft right now to bear that much money. Hell I cant even sell my 04.5 2wd Quadcab with 115,000 miles for 12,000 right now.
As for the mega, I love it. Where are finding long bed conversions for 6K? I would do it in a heartbeat for that kind of money. Not really for the functionalilty, but the longbed looks more proportional on the mega.

A place in Texas (Central Texas Frame and Alignment aka KS conversions now) and one I think up in Utah (Precision Body Line) have been doing the conversions. I think the number is closer to $7K by now. If you have a white truck, a little cheaper. Price on that truck does seem a little high. I would have gotten a long bed, if available, but have been happy with the short bed. I can imagine with stacks, a tool box, etc, you will eat up alot of space in the bed. And a long box conversion of this would be about 8 inches longer than the crew cab long box Ford, which would make parking it almost impossible in normal spots, especially with a brush guard on the front.

Precision Bodyline charges $5400 for it or close to that. I was just in there shop 2 weeks ago
If I had a Mega (and WHEN I get one) Precision will do the conversion on it.

Did they have any of the truck there for you to take a look at? How was the quality of their work? I figure with some of the mods on my truck already (airbags, exhaust, etc) they would charge extra when they were stretching it. But does sound about $6K will get you there after taxes, which were high in Utah if I remember correctly.

What kind of equipment is on the truck?
If it's the laramie package with heated leather, nav system, and sunroof, and all the other goodies, I wouldn't think that price would be too bad of a starting point...

we really need the details. to determine a fair price you need to know what trim level it is, what options it has, which motor, 4wd or 2wd, etc.. do miss the long bed. i am in the lanscaping business, and it came in handy. i pretty much just use a trailer to haul crap now. keeps the truck alot nicer too. i thought about doing the conversion, but at the price, i just couldn't justify it. it comes out to about $350 an inch for the extra 18" you get! i really don't need it that bad, not to mention it screws with your turning radius quite a bit.

I don't think its a laramie didn't have leather seats or the nav. had cloth seats no navigation, 4wd don't know what engine as they weren't open. I might head back on friday, its an automatic also.

I miss a long bed sometimes, but having all the interior room is an even trade, IMO...
If it's an 07.5 with the 6.7, do some reading about those on here, if you haven't already. I, personally, would avoid if it that's what it's got.
Without the Laramie package, it does seem kinda high in price, but we all know that is just the asking price...

Wow... Well good words, all their work looks good from what I have seen. Been debating doing this for some time, wondering how it would hold up long term... An additional concern was that I had a garage long enough to house it, and indeed this newest house I built the garage 30' deep. Tempting to go get this done...

Well, I test drove it today and got some more info, Its an 07 4x4 with the 5.9 automatic 51665 miles 1499 hours 34.4 mph, Dually Mega cab, Automatic shifted great, not the laramine had a cd player cloth seats the out side looked like new no scratches the bed was scratched up but thats typical looks like it had a goosneck ball but was removed. interior was clean also. and they are asking 28995, And they didnt' want to budge on the price, I didn't try to hard as thats not exactly the truck i'm wanting but did like it alot. Is 29k to much for that truck, Seems like alot of money to me since the truck market is so soft.

There are guys posting here that some dealerships are offering 1/2 off MSRP. Hard to ask $29K for a 07 with 51K miles when you can walk over and get an new 08 for $23K.

$23000 or so tops. Friend of mine got a LOADED 06 Mega dually w/ 30k on it a couple months back for $22k OTD!! And the values were a bit higher then too.
And BTW do your homework to decide if its a 5.9 or 6.7 you want. The crappy 4 speed auto or the 6 speed auto. There is a catch either way.
As far as precision there is Diesel Tech Magazine that I just got about a mega longbed conversion that they did. There school of thought is to stretch the frame over the axle and claim they make it stronger than before. I haul a heavy gooseneck/fifth wheel trailer and am unsure how over the test of time that will hold up. The other school of thought is the more traditional here in the midwest where tons of frames are modded for the rv industry. They would put in there extension just behind the cab. If you can get your own bed and mount and paint it you can get the frame done for less than $1500 in Indiana.
