07 10mpg avg, Help

My 07, 4wd,auto,quad cab, long bed, stock, 3.73 gears, has averaged 10mpg( hand calculated) from day one. I'm a very gentle driver, trying to get the best mileage available ,following advice from here on the forum
I've 0nly 11k on it. Been to the dealership twice, basically they say Oh well!
Paying $4.79 this week for fuel.
Looks like I'll be selling my dream truck, unles I can get better mileage she's staying parked.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks for all the great advice on this forum.

Is your truck lifted at all? Do you have being than stock tires? In that mileage average have you pulled? What is your daily driving like, alot of city, all freeway? Are you letting the truck warm up prior to driving, where do you live? All that being said, seems to be a little low for mileage. Have you changed your fuel filter, how does your air filter look?

Thats weird...I only had my truck a month or so before I jacked it and slapped big tires on it. But that month lol I have better mpg than that! Even now I can get 12mpg on the highway...14 if I stay under the speed limit lol

WKT is your truck a 6.7 or a 5.9 engine? If it's a 5.9 you have a problem and I would not start adding mods until you find the issue. If it is a 6.7 the DPF or other emissions stuff may be having an issue. Check your owners manual for regeneration and how to cause it to happen.

Keep in mind also that until you get a bunch of miles on it and get it loosened up, the mileage will basically suck. Mine didn't get goo mpg until I had about 60K on it. Then it really opened up and I got about 6 mpg more. You're still in the high friction phase of ownership. Stick with it. It'll get better.

I dunno. I've only got 13.5K on my odo and recently started another thread b/c I pulled off 26.6 on my last tank, hand calculated. Now, my goal on the last tank was to see just how extreme I could get about eeking mpgs out of the tank but I'd say something is wrong if you're only getting 10mpg.

My 07 5.9 was getting 18 MPG off the lot empty around town. That was with 4 miles on it. By 11K it should be getting WAY BETTER. No amount of miles is going to suddenly change it and get 20.

never heard that breaking in a diesel, got anyone +6 mpg. if you were getting 15 mpg before, that's a 40% increase- sure that someone didn't drop one of those hybrid cummins in your truck while you weren't looking?

Throw something heavy behind - that'll help a lot! Mine got 11mpg when I bought it, and it's up to 17-19 on the hiway and 15 around town with the lift and tires in my sig.

I agree. Get at least 10k behind it and find a big mountain. These engines are meant to be worked and I know it sounds silly but give it a try. I cant explain it but my truck runs better after I give it a good hard pull up the mountain.

On the other note a good mileage tune helps a lot too. If you plan on keeping it simple get a Smarty Jr.
