05 Loaded Silverado vs. 06 Loaded Ram

I just traded in my Crew Cab, long bed, Diesel, Loaded Silverado and bought an 06 Quad< long bed, Diesel, Loaded Ram and thought some may want to hear the comparisons in options.

The main option that Dodge offers that Chevy does not is the Navigation. i could never figure out why the Suburban with the same exact dash had Nav, but the Silverado did not.

The other option is the Blue tooth> Chevy does not want to hurt crappy Onstar sales so it does not offer it.

Some things I do not like about the Dodge are no auto headlights. Even my Moms crappy $15k Malibu has auto head lights> I have left them on a couple of times now.

Silverado has more comfortable seats and are full power including Lumbar and side support..

I like the Silverado's auto digital climate control better. My father hates his, but I got used to mine.

No power folding mirrors on the Dodge. I can barely fit my truck in the garage. I will just have to inch it in from now on.

The Chevy is a more comfortable ride. The Dodge does ride more like a truck, but there is less body roll and I like that much better. You feel more confident in the curves. The Dodge also seems to be more smooth at higher speeds, but that could be just because its new.

I cannot understand why Chrysler would not put rain sensing wipers on the laramie package. Its just a cheap sensor on the windsheild. I had it on my 300 SRT* and I liked them.

The interior and exterior in my opinion is much nicer on the Dodge. I love the faux wood and I like the guages. It can be a little more difficult reaching the controlls. The Silverado is angled more towards the driver.

If you mean they do not turn off automaticly if left on when you shut the engine off, well they do shut off automaticaly, you just have to wait like 15-20 minutes or something like that, I can not remember the exact time. It's in the owners manual.

He means the auto on headlight feature. That's the only thing I miss.

First off, welcome and secondly, thanks for the mostly positive comparison.

Get your daytime running lights turned on, then you won't have to worry about auto on headlights.

You mean you can't reach over and turn the ****? Really, my wife has these on her Chevy, nothing but problems. GM finally replaced the unit and it now works better. Well, better but not good enough that I'd ever crave to have them. Maybe there are some models of these that work better, but really just give me Speed.

Ditto on the auto headlights. I haven't had to turn on or off a headlight switch in over five years. I wish for that on my new Dodge.

On a disconnecting note, I had to paint the Faux wood trim in my Dodge. It didn't work in the '70's or '80's, It dang sure isn't going to work in '06. Mine is now body color.

Those things really bite. The X-wif had those on the '04 Jeep GC we bought. They worked when it was dry and did not work when it was raining. Had me wondering what they were thinking when they designed those things.

All that electronic crap on the silverado is just a bunch of stuff to break and not work right.

I have no problem turning on my own headlights (which I do just about everyday) and I have no problem turning on my windshield wipers. (course here in Texas as dry as it is, I haven't needed them very much )

I felt the same way about the headlights. Another nice thing about the Chevy were the auto-window down features on driver AND passenger side.

But you really miss those auto folding mirrors? Do you tow a large trailer? The Dodge towing mirrors are super. They provide a very good view of the trailer, and the Dodge fisheyes are excellent. The Chevy mirrors had to be constantly moved around for me to see anything.

The climate control on the Chevy was definitely better, as was the whole HVAC system.

But the 2005 Chevy came with an overheating Duramax, 3" exhaust, and EGR system, IFS, low ride height, donut tires, completely crappy shocks, and a cheesy dash.

The Dodge came with the Cummins, awesome axles, and a Megacab. There's no comparison in my book.

Automatic Headlights

Some people like the auto headlights. I however do not want the headlights coming on until I want them on. This is one feature I really dont like. I dont want someone else deciding that I need my lights on.

I did forget something else. No memory seats. Now every time my wife gets in the truck I have to search for my spot> Like I said I don't think these options should be in every truck, but a $50k loaded Laramie should have them.

As for some of the comments, if more bells and whistles means there is more to go wrong, we should remove every option on your truck that was not available in the 1950's. It is rare these days for something electrical like the above mentioned to break.

Yes I can turn a **** to turn on the wipers, but when you have the part in your parts bin (on my 300 SRT) and its just a little crappy sensor pasted to the wind sheild, why not use it.

As for the headlights, even you guys that insist that you like to turn them on yourself, drive a couple years with the auto and go back and it will change your mind. I almost get whip lash when i jump out of the truck and hear that bell dinging. I already left them on one over night and luckily they shut off after so many minutes if left on.

I sold my race car and trailer so I only tow on occasion. Its becase they stick out so far that I have to inch it in my garage. It would be much easier to fold them up when I go in or out.

Alot of the above is electronics 101 and can be very easily installed very cheaply at the factory and should be installed on the luxury version of your marquee pick up truck the same way I thought Nav should have been offered on Chevy's.

If my Dodge's msrp was like $2k less I would understand, but the Dodge does cost a little more than the Chevy. My comparison is the same when it comes to the Viper vs. the Z06, both are comparable performance wise, the Vette offers alot more features, but I would buy the Viper for the looks at the same price> I already have my plans next year to trade my 07 Vette for a used Viper.

I was hoping he meant...

"Loaded" as in 2000 lbs. of payload in the bed or pulling a 30' gooseneck with a backhoe on it over some 11,000' 8% grade in the Rockies. Now that's the kind of Dodge vs. Chebby comparasion I want to read about!

You ladies and your auto windsheild wipers, auto climate control, bluetooth, GPS nav, auto headlights.....geez....takes all the fun out of driving.

"Laramie" is just another windswept town on I-80 in Wyoming that you're glad to have in your rear-view mirror no matter what direction you're headed.

Long live the SLT!

(and oh, I was just kidding about the "ladies" part... )
