'05 5.9 less problems?
hello,
i have monitored this board for some time starting when i first got my '01 in 2001. i have had my current truck since buying it new in '05. i did have injector issues but resolved and warranty replaced all 6. my question is that it seems that the '05s have less problems than the newer trucks. is this the case or is it just my imagination?
as stated i did have injector issues but as a whole i do not read much about the '05s. are they 5.9s better built or as the truck gets older less is put into print on this board?
just wondering as my truck runs fine with almost 50k miles and daily driver. pulled a 5k lbs trailer 3 times to the east coast from socal. stock and am also wondering if leaving the truck stock makes it more reliable? not as fun granted but must watch the money.
thanks,
david

My 05 has 45k on it and has never seen the inside of a repair shop. Only mod is a MBRP muffler, no programmers for me, I need my truck to be reliable. I'll mod my moped though, it has pedals to get me home.

Crank up the hp and parts are going to break. That said, I'm VERY impressed with the abuse my truck has taken. I flog this thing every single day and the only problem I've had was with the original tranny. I knew that was coming (so did the ol lady) and prepared for it.

I have worked for Dodge 24 years and have repaired all the diesel models through the years. I agree the 5.9 common rail has been the better truck. The early models had the transfer pump problems but that has been fixed. Most problems I see today are water pumps going out and some injector problems but they are rare. Great truck too bad fuel costs are killing sales.

I have had a few issues with mine, new transmission (before i got smarty jr.) replaced stearing gear box. and a couple of minor things. over all it had been a great truck. I would buy another one.
You guys should try the smarty jr. great product that keeps it in good limits so your not breaking stuff. It makes a huge differance over stock.
