04.5 reverse horn honk, anyone figured out how to disable?

Has anyone figured out yet how to disable the annoying horn honk when in reverse feature on the 04.5 models? I did some searching and it seems that the 06s can be disabled by jumping the wires on the seat belt connector, but that doesn't help me, I tried it. Even with the seat belt attached it still does it.

And yes, I can and know how to use my mirrors when I back up, that's not the point. Sometimes when I hop in and the door doesn't quite shut the whole way, it honks like crazy. It happened to me the other day at a busy gas station. I started to back up and HOONNK! I thought I almost hit somebody, but to my own embarresment, no one was there, it was only me! So I re-shut the door and drove away in shame

So please, any advise for us 04.5 owners, would be great. Thank you.

From what I've read, there's no disabling this, and no reversing the ECM flash. That's why I will not do the recall. Why did you get the ECM flashed?

Stop Chime Proceedure by dodgeram dude

Original Write Up By dodgeram dude

Many of you 3rd Gen Owners are tired of that "Saftey" feature we know as that "Annoying Dingger" Well Here is the Cut and Dry method on how to get rid of that chime.

Here's the procedure...

1. With all doors closed and the ignition switch in any position except ON or START, buckle the driver's seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for the seat belt warning light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver's seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

Thats for the seat belt chime, not the horn going off if the door is open and the truck not in park. My truck will never go the dealer for any service work, My brother says he is going to cut the wires to the horn on his.

you can jumper the wires on the seat belt buckle, makes it think the seat belt is connected and it won't do it and the annoying dinger is gone too.

Will using the Smarty not help this? Wouldn't the stock ECM be overwritten with the catchers/Smarty Stock software and allow that to be changed? I never had the reverse recall done on my truck. I just know the stock Smarty software does not have the honk feature.

Mine still does it with the Smarty. Scared me half to death when it happened.

Believe me, I did not get the flash. I would never get something that stupid on purpose. It's been that way since I bought the truck (used).

Like you say, maybe this one isn't reversible. As far as the dinging or the chime from inside for the seat belt, thats an easy fix that can be done from the manual instructions. I fixed that right away, along with the doors all locking at 15 MPH. It's the HORN that's the problem.

You can always wire in a toggle switch to the power wires that go to the horns under the front bumper. This will disable the power going to the horns completely. No honk should sound even with the doors open. Afterwards you can turn them back on with a flick of a switch and then use you horn as normal, so you can blast a dumb fool pulling out in front of ya.

You may have to get in the habit of putting your toe on the interior light switch with the door open. Then you can still jump out quickly to check the hitch. What a nice solution to a stupid fix.

What were they thinking?

...actually it's easier to access the ground wires from the horn as they terminate near the hood hinge on the drivers side. I've installed relays for this purpose and use the back up light driver at the TIPM to energize the relay to break ground to the horns while the truck is in reverse.

I read on here somewhere, that somebody said their horn honking was disabled with Smarty Jr. I don't think their truck was an 04.5 though, because as you see in my sig, I have the Smarty Jr, and it still honks. It did it before Jr and it did it after. Maybe on some years with the original Smarty it might work, but I don't know.

With the train horn activated by the stock horn that would be awfully noisy!
