04.5 HO600 acting up already!!!

What the heck is this!!!

Ok get this only about 3.2K miles after vactioning 800miles back and forth from relatives. The ride was ok there. Comfortness is there. My truck still idles WEIRD. When coming to a stop the RPM drops to about 500-600rpms.. then it'll rise up to 750 and stay there. Everytime too!!! *** !!! I called the Dodge dealer and they obviously gave me BS. Techs don't get paid or what??? This is ridiculous!!! Another cool guy in here was having similar issues and finally his truck cluncked-out!!! Dodge dealer did 3 injectors and that was it...All power back to normal including idling. Also my truck is powerful sometimes and so freaken sluggish at other times... THIS COULD BE INJECTORS TOO!!! MAYBE LIFT PUMP!!!!

Ok this isn't it.......gear shifting is not crisp and so harsh....this sucks!!! Also at lower speeds I hear metal binding or something like that....MIGHT BE THE REAR DIFF metal to metal binding of some sort!!! don't know, but at higher speeds I can't hear it maybe the other street noises takes over...im confused!!!
*what* is up with this BRAND NEW TRUCK??? HELP!!!

Let me hear it guys.. I am already thinking about the worst--->trading it for a 05 PSD 6.0L......hehe!!! If Dodge don't do *Admin edit* about this I am going to trade it in...

bought NEW for $35K
willing to trade if given $33K

BTW model truck: 04.5CTD, DRW, QC, Sport package, 6spd....

The RPM drop sounds normal to me. Did you have the latest flash done yet?

The 6spd when new is very tight. Usually the tranny will start loosening up after 10k miles or after some heavy towing. The 6spd is a noisy tranny and at lower RPMs you will hear gear rattling. BTW, check the fluid level in the tranny and diff, could be low.

I would bet it's a 6 speed. I've had a few customers in for that concern. Only fix would be a software change and that is up to the engineers not the dealer techs.

On the trans deal (assuming 6speed again) check your fluid level. Some here have reported that they have found them low. I've checked a few at work and haven't discovered any low ones, but some are out there......and NO, DC no longer pays for this to be checked on vehicle prep at the dealer. They "should" be already checked before delivery to the dealers. Not saying this is right or wrong.....just the way it is.

hold on here... so you are saying that the DEALERs cannot fix that??? only if the dodge engineers can find a remedy(software tuning) then we'll be saved!!! *Admin Edit*....hehe!!! dang DC...guess they are confused too...

I hate that the rpm drops like that....makes the new truck seem like a clunker crap!!! dang it!! almost $40K and has "initial-drop-down" idle problem already!!! makes me sick...

wouldn't you think an injector/s or liftpump may be causing it(assuming the injector/s and/or liftpumps aren't totally BROKEN YET...just beginning to breakdown).. how come some people's CTD HO600 don't have this DROP in RPM at Idle and then back to normal 750rpm type of deal....???????

You ought to trade it if you are having so much trouble.

Something Ford tough would better suit your purposes.

My rpms drop ever time I shift the tranny and when comming to a stop. I can "feel it" drop but it comes right back up.. This is normal as I believe the fuel is being cleared from the fuel rails. This also helps when an exhaust brake is installed.

Mine does that too, it's normal and not annoying. You are being waaayyy too **** about things. It's a diesel, it's going to make some noise. The drop in RPM is due to the computer compensating and "finding" the desired idle when you cut the throttle from a higher RPM. There is nothing wrong with your truck, just drive it and enjoy it. If you don't like it's traits then buy a gasser...

Normal for a 6sp, did it during the test drive - no big deal! Just wish it would stay at a lower rpm so it would shake a bit more

Trany is a heavy use 6 sp, should NOT feel like a car trans. Try driving something with a eaton/fuller

Really don't see a problem

I have an 04 6 speed with lots of miles on it... it started to jump around at idle, and would stumble off idle as you pulled away.... After 2 weeks in the dealer they finally decided it was the lift pump and the CP3 high pressure pump....

Lack of fuel, lack of lubrication from lack of fuel damaged the internal parts of the CP3 and it had failed...

BTW it ran great at WOT under load....

So I'm now putting helper pumps on all my Dodges to prevent this problem in the future...

Man, what a shame! Hate to tell you but the truck is worthless. It has all the symptoms of being a planter in the front yard. Many individuals and dealers are aware of these problems and run the other way when asked how much they will give for it. BUT, BUT never fear because I, YES I can help you rid yourself of the trash. The best any junk/bone/scrap yard in the world will do is around $200. I'm fully prepared to give you...ummm...man I hate it for ya, trying to drive this piece of junk.....ummm, I'll give you $250, good cash money for the heap. And I'll pick it up, free of charge....anywhere, ANYWHERE dude. Let me know. I'm easy to find.

Unhappy Diesel Duds?

I’m starting the Buy back on 04.5’ for continually failing fuel injectors, possible engine damage. Severe smoking at start-up, rough idle, and sounds like a rod is coming through the block. It has driveline vibration, Weird drifty steering, leaking door seal, and erratic performance and fuel economy. After 9500 freeway miles the hood rattles and squeaks, rear window rattles (??) while something in the rear suspension started producing a loud knock. Oil gets very black in 200 miles and sludgy in 3,000 and I’ve never towed anything with it. Transmission shifts erratically and when cold the vehicle feels like the parking brake is on.

My 99’ Powerstroke after almost 100,000 of nearly trouble free miles, rode better, had tighter steering and no rattles or squeaks, it got 15 mpg in city driving and 17 to 19 mpg at 65 to 75 mph tjen my Ram Cummins that still only gets 10 to 12 mpg city 13 to 16mpg highway. A friend’s similar 04’ 555 without the third injection event and catalytic converter (not the 600) gets 18 mpg town and up to 22mpg on the highway. It drives smoother, steers better, does not wander runs much smoother and quiter and has more power them my 600.

I guess it’s the luck of the draw, and some of Rams just as the Fords are just duds, for now, as soon as I can get rid of my Dodge dud I’m looking for a used low mileage 7.3 powerstroke, but will drive it some distance and check it out well before buying. ..

Angry Diesel Duds in addition:

Forgot to add the best part:

After the 5th attempt to repair the injector problems I got a call from the dealer, that said that the vehicle should not have been sold because it a vehicle that likely has the mis-installed soft plugs I should not drive it until they can do a destructive to determine if the plugs are ready to blow. The Test originally required pressurizing the cooling system, then start and run the stone cold engine at full throttle for 3 mins 1,000 rpm above redline to see if or how many soft plugs blow.. If one or more plugs blow they replace them and try the test again. Apparently during this test radiators, water pumps and cooling system components were damaged or blown, so they revised the test by not pressurizing the cooling system But as one soft plug already shows signs of leaking how will I know the test proves all plugs are sound and the engine did not suffer damage form the test?
