04.5 A/C passenger vents not as cold as drivers side.

This is an update to an old thread we had a couple of years ago. Beemo helped a few of us upgrade our orifice tube lines with a less restrictive one to help with this issue. With this fix, I made it through just about 2 summers with no issues. Late last summer the problem started to happen again. This year (third summer) the problem is back in full force. So hear goes upgrade project number 2. I worked on the truck today for the first time since I had the issue. As normal, the refrigerant was low. My system required one can. What is happening from what I have seen with a gauge set is the high side pressures spike up to 450 psi when you first crank the truck up and immediately turn on the A/C on a hot/humid summer day (just about every day in the South) because the electronicaly controlled fan clutch is not engaged and pulling air over the condensor to reduce the head pressure which pushes the refrigerant out of the system. What I have done is order a Be Cool 2in. thick slimline pusher fan and a Derale fan controller with A/C override to install on my truck from Summit. I should have it Saturday (I paid for Saturday delivery, I hate being hot...LOL) I'll take some pics of the install and the gauge set before and after on the first crank to show the high head pressures. This one annoyance with my truck drives me crazy and in the summer heat, it dosen't take long...LOL

After I put on an electric fan and the new orfice line that you and Beemo suggested I was able to put in a few more ounces of refrigerant to get it even cooler in my truck on these 100+ degree days. With the electric fan on there it takes the system along while to build up enough pressure to cycle out if it even does.
Thank you once again for the help and good info.

Oh, so you did put on an electric fan in front of the condensor? Have you had anymore issues? If not, then looks like this is gonna fix me up for good this time.

I have read the thread you are talking about several times and have it printed out for future reference. Please let us know how the install goes and the effects of the new pusher fan. If this is something that works I will put a fan on my list.

I'm still mulling over the idea of installing a Be Cool slimline pusher fan for the condenser. If I do I'm planning to just use a relay controlled by the the AC clutch with a master switch in the cab.

I bumped up the low side pressure since it was on the low side of the operation range several weeks ago. That helped stabilize the temps between the driver and passenger side vents.

And so does having the heater core shutoff valve.

That is what the Derale relay will do. It has a wire the hooks to the compressor clutch wire to turn on the fan when you turn on the A/C( I've used this relay before and it worked great). It also has a temp probe which you can set to come on at a certain temp. I was going to put it on my tranny cooler for those long backups. With the fan, as stated above you can control the head pressure better with the fan and this allows you to put in more refrigerant, hence colder A/C quicker. Total cost of the parts were $155 dollars plus shipping from Summit. If it works good I will post up the part numbers from Summit Racing so everyone can have at it. I should of done this a long time ago......

Spooler, when you write up your install, include what you a beemo did to your truck. I read all the pages awhile back and I really don't want to again. Plus I am waiting for your results because mine is doing the same thing.

Oh well. UPS( Un-Predictable Services) has done it again. They have dropped the ball and I won't get my parts until Monday. I hate UPS!!!! I have ten times better luck with Fedex...

UPS doesn't have Saturday delivery in alot of places. In the places they do, you have to tell them it is a business before they will.

Round here I am SOL on Saturday unless it comes USPS, even with a business.

Well, I made a few phone calls and got my stuff at about 2:00PM today. I have the fan installed and let me tell you, it is a tight fit...LOL I had to trim the rubber pads in half (1/4") to get enough clearance to shut the hood. I also have the relay mounted, gotta finish wiring it up. Going out to eat tonight so I will get right back on the job after I get back. As the old saying goes, "If the wife ain't happy, nobody is happy" LOL. I won't put my gauge set on it until the heat of the day tomorrow and it will be at the first crank of the day so I should get a good comparison.

Spooler I did mount mine in front of the condenser. When I had the original condenser I tweeked the condenser brackets to move it back enough for the hood to shut and the release lever just barely grazes the fan. I also mounted it off center since the release lever is in the center. As for power I mounted a relay on the heat shield of the intake and tapped the battery for power and used the compressor clutch wire to activate the relay.

The only issue I've had lately was another deer comited suicide, $6400 later my truck was fixed. They did put in an aftermarket condensor on it, then put the fan back on the front.

Got the camera in hand. Got some good news and some not so good news. It fixes a few problems but not everything. I'll give the good and bad after a while. It's gonna take forever to upload the pics cause I am on dialup...
