03 SO w/ Torque Dog Surging

I've been searching the forum all morning in an attempt to find a resolution to my problem but have had no success. I've read several similar cases but none of them seem to fit my exact problem. Let me begin by saying I'm not trying to build the biggest/baddest truck on the road. I was very comfortable with the 50 mph setting. I get a little more power, a little better fuel economy, and I can sleep at night know that I’m not going to smoke my tranny.

This all began back in the fall of 07. I took my truck to the dealer for some warrantee work on the drive shaft. While it was in there I figured they could also flash the ECM with TSB 18-022-07. Everything seemed to be fine for awhile (couple weeks.. maybe a month) and then I started having problems with it surging. It felt as if it was starving for fuel so naturally, my first reaction was bad fuel. I added the Power Service and problem persisted. Next I changed the fuel filter... still had problem. Then I contacted BD and they sent me a referb TD unit. No luck, same problems with the replacement. I then didn't know where to turn so I took the Torque Dog out of my truck and threw it in a closet. I then drove the truck for over a year with no issues. Just to let you know what a year’s worth of mile is for me. It’s a 03 and I have 45k on it. It not an everyday driver and only gets used to pull the boat, during hunting season, or if we get any snow accumulation on the ground. Needless to say, it runs fine stock.

About a month ago I pulled the TD out of the closet and decided to give it another try. Same results. Next I called BD and I ended up sending the unit back so it could be tested. The results indicated the programmer was defective so they sent me another one. A couple day go by and then I receive the unit in the mail... no luck, same problem.

The truck seems to idle fine but when the rpm's reach about 1600-1800 it starts surging really bad. I'm now at a loss. One other piece of info is that if I toggle the power selector to the OFF position (facing the notch in the switch) I continue to experience the same problem. How can this happen when no alterations are being made to the stock tune???

After researching, I though the problem could be the LP. I guess the only way to tell is to put $200 into a gauge. But why would I experience problems with the box in the OFF position? That’s telling me there is a wiring or connection problem. I'll quit speculating and give you guys a chance to chime in.

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem when I tried a Torque Dog on my 03 SO. I never experienced it with any other module that I tried. There are a plethora of modules for the 03s that perform much better than the torque dog. I would sell it and get something else. For a completely problem free power gain and mileage gain on the 03s, I recommend the Van Aaken C3.1. There is much more powerful stuff out there, but the Van Aaken C3.1 is very nice.
