'03 NV5600 "Rattle Burst"?

Hi All,

My NV5600 makes a noise when starting out under load in 1st, 2nd and Rev. I talked to the PO, and he called it rattle burst. He explained that the noise started at about 20K. The truck now has 150K highway miles ( the engine has 3000 hours - 50 mph average!). Runs and shifts fine, and has no other noise when running. The noise just happens when starting out.

I do not know if this is the correct term for this noise. If it is not, what is it called. What problems will this cause? How is it fixed, and any recommendations for a Northern CA trans shop?

Thanks,

I'd change lube often and keep running it if that's the only problem. See how much metal is on the magnet (it's inside, on the bottom of the case) when you change. Craig

Does it have the rattle at very low rpms under load? If so it's normal.

Yep,

The noise is in 1st 2nd, and Rev. When starting out. I typically don't use the skinny pedal when taking off from a stop sign, or backing up, once the clutch is engaged, I hit the pedal. So it is low RPMs under some load.

That's the way mine has been before and after it was overhauled. I'll change lube every 20-30k depending on how much I tow. Lube is cheap - parts and downtime isn't. Craig
