03 exhaust

being a cummins owner i look at every cummins i see and notice some odd details.

one thing i noticed on the 03's and 04's seen trucks bone stock some come with a 4" down pipe from the turbo and 4" all the way back.

others i see just a stock 3 1/2" exhaust

can anyone answer this. i know after the 04.5 they were all downsized..

03-04 305/555 HO Rams came with 3 1/2" down pipe and it went to 4" right after the muffler. 04.5 on up was 4" from turbo to tip.

mine is an 03. when i first got the truck the first thing i wanted to do is straight pipe it with 4" all the way. well when my exhaust guy and i put it up on the lift it was all 4" factory exhaust.

being curious i look at my dads 03 and his is 3 1/2" from turbo to muffler then 4" out. since mine is a sports edition would that be a factor.

Mine is an 03 with a 3-1/2 to 4". I did just puck up a 4" BullyDog on Ebay for $267.50. It is the 304 Stainless system. There are more of them on there if anyone is interested. They are listed as remanufactured but I called BullyDog and they are the obeslete system that the ceramic coated system replaced. They are clearing out extra inventory so they make deals with sellers on ebay to sell them. The lady even looked it up and was able to tell me the sellers user ID "deal-monger" so it is lagit.

Actually the 03's came with a 4" down pipe to a 3.5" resonator then to a 4" pipe to a 3.5" muffler then to a 4" pipe the reat of the way back. So you remove the muffler and install a 4" S pipe from resonator to a 4" Monster muffler. Then later remove the resonator and down pipe because you can just bolt in a 4" down pipe that is an exact fit from the exhaust brake down to the S pipe. Sounds good and it's real SWEET

My 03 had a 3 1/2" from turbo to muffler, then 4" back to a 5" tip. Replaced it with the 4" turbo back Banks SS Monster system. Great sound with no drone while towing.

The 03/04's that I have seen, including mine, have a 4" to 3 1/2" cast elbow off the turbine side of the turbo, a 3 1/2" downpipe to the muffler, then a 4" tailpipe. This is factory with the HE341 Holset turbo.

I aquired a 4" to 4" cast elbow and downpipe from an 04.5+ truck, when I installed my SPS62. That was to eliminate the 3 1/2" restriction from the 03/04 factory cast elbow and downpipe.

Do you know does that Bully Dog system replace the cast elbow that restricts the exhaust or bolt to it I was thinking about grabbing one of those shipping is where they seem to be making a lil money back $150

I can't answer about the cast exhaust elbow, haven't recieved it yet. You can call BullyDog direct, I think I got connected to customer service, ask them they will probably tell you. As soon as I recieve mine I will try to let you and others know. The main reason I purchased it is that it is the 304 system and it should be the last exhaust I will need to purchase. Even it it does not include the elbow it still will be less restrictive than the stock system that will rust out anyway.

I received my exhaust Friday. It does not replace the cast exhaust elobow. It is 3-1/2" out of the turbo for about 1" then it goes up to 4" all the way back. It is the complete 304 system that they are obsoleteing so there is absolutly nothing wrong with the system. It is brand new in the box. MSRP of $1089.00 and I got mine for $267.50 to my door. Installs easy and sounds fair, I am use to an 98 with 4" straight pipe all the way back, so an 03 will never sound that good. Over all I am very satisfied if anyone is interested.
