Ok, I know I shouldn't, but something is making the fingers type, it's out of my control.

Are you sure you didn't accidentaly drive home a Ford?

Ok, out of my system.

Seriously, I hope they make it right with you.

deje,
Sorry to hear about the oil . As I'm sure you know, there has not been a single other member who has posted a similar problem. I'm very interested in what the cause is. Please keep us informed on what they find.

I'd be inclined to wash the engine down, remove the excess oil, and retest for the oil leaks. Since nobody else has even had a hint of an oil leak (other than the draft tube) this diag sounds suspicious to me. So how do you like your Stratus????

Re:the 03 disaster

It sounds like the 03 has a similar CCV system as a TDI with an elehpant hose, basically it just drips on the ground. I guess 02's and earliers had catch bottles. I do know that when the oil is overfilled, it will come out the ccv breather hose. If I overfilll mine, my oil level will slowly drop with driving, until it's reached an ideal point and then the usage levels off. Could be your ccv spitting oil all over rather than leaks, but I have to imagine the techs that worked on your truck would have thought of that. Dealers are idiots but that's pretty basic...

Re:the 03 disaster

the oil wasnt coming out of the tube ,that was the 1st thing I and then the tech checking it looked at. I am an ase certified master auto & truck tech 17 years of exp. the oil leaks are real . so far 3 valve cover bolts were leaking as i stood there the tech removed one. its sealed with an o ring there was nothing wrong with the o ring it wasnt torn burned or damaged. then we got back underneath it . there is an inspection cover /torque convertor bolt access plate on the bottom side of the 48re bell housing when it was removed oil poured out.Im not bashing the eng in anyway and i realize that this just doesnt happen with the cummins. But its happening with this one & being a tech makes it all the more frustrating.

Re:the 03 disaster

Good God, Man.

I know it sucks... bad, butI think I would have to tell them to find you another truck. This sounds like one of those things that could go on for quite some time. Of course being a mech yourself, you would know more about that than most of us.. Geeze, I can't see paying all that bread for.....THIS!!! I'm getting madder just thinking about. My truck is by far the best I've ever owned, driven, or even ridden in, and I think everyone is entitled to the same experience I've had. Tell them to take it back and order you one without all the trouble. It will be worth the wait and the hassle. IMO.

Re:the 03 disaster

Well now you know why the truck was dealer traded. Musta been a Monday AM engine. Wonder if it has excessive blowby causing the oil pumping (incorrect ring or broken on install? or missing?) Gotta remember happens and these things are built by humans. We do screw up sometimes..

"Dealers are idiots but that's pretty basic..."

Hey, I resemble that remark, or, uh, something like that. No, I have never heard of any of the 03's leaking any oil. I had an 01' that I bought at auction with 41,000 miles on it that was blowing a quart out the blow by every 20 miles, but we just swapped out engines in that truck and Cummins took it back. Sorry, no help here??? ??? :

Oh just a post a while back when u posted pics of the powerstroke in pieces and said something to the effect that you wouldn't want those Ford grease monkeys working on it. ( I guess Dodge grease monkeys are better) I sorta bit your head off and Jack deleted my post. Just reminiscing about good old times.......

Oh, ya, I remember. If you notice I said I "resemble" that remark. I was making fun of myself see. And about that Ford thing, I was not saying mechanics are idiots. I was saying that I wouldn't want my engine taken apart like that when no body really had any experience with it. I was trying to say I would have rather had a new engine put in instead of having the broken one torn completely apart by a tech that didn't have any experience with a brand new design.
