What's in this 'Mystery' oil that makes it suitable to be both a lube oil and a fuel oil, or is that is 'mystery' as well?

it is a "mystery".

I dont know. Stuff smells 'pepperminty'.

My grandfather used it in our Ford 8N tractor since it was new and it has never had a rebuild since he purchased it in 1948. Along with the Flathead 8 pump we have. Neither use oil.

It works as a fuel stablizer in Diesel and Gasoline, also works as a winterizer. It has lubricity properties that are 'slippery to the touch' and supposedly help reduce carbon deposits on the valves and cyclinders and such. I did find out first hand on a kohler 12hp with 2000 hours on it which we used "marvel mystery oil in" that the valves and piston were very clean.

As far as what it does in the crankcase. I run 1 ozs of mysetery oil for every 1 quarts of regular oil. For fuel it is 4oz per 10 gallons.

Maybe someone else knows.

MSDS sheet for Marvel Mystery Oil

There are a lot of testomonials about this stuff online. Just search it up.
You have to be careful using it in gasoline applications. It can soften up hoses that are not resistive to oil products. It took out the filler hoses on both my tanks and two small connector sections in one of my motorhomes. Used to use it religiously in my fuel until that happened. Had to drop both tanks (a 30 gallon and a 90 gallon) to make repairs - - not cheap plus I lost a lot of fuel before realizing what was happening.

I do use it in small motors such as the lawn mower - - only two little hoses to replace.

I personally would never let any of that 'snake oil' near my vehicle. I think it delivers a similar amount of value as fortune tellers and palm readers. Here's a good article on oil additives.

Oil Additives Article

With today's oil technology I would not be using MMO as a oil additive. A long time ago when engine oil didn't have additives sticking lifters, valves and rings was a problem. MMO worked to prevent this from happening. My Grandfather told me the story on how he found out about MMO. When he was in the 8th Air Corp based in England during WW2 the mechanics added MMO to the oil in B17/B24 radial engines. Sticking valves was a big problem with these engines. MMO stopped the sticking valves.
Saying all this I do use MMO as a fuel additive in my gassers.

Mikey

The MMO won't hurt anything, and if you feel you have had good results in the past, why change now? Keep doing what you're doing, the Cummins will outlast the truck anyway.
