03 6 Speed High RPM's Between Gears?
I am about to make the move from my 95 to an 03. Found a great one with the 6 speed. The only problem with the truck according to the owner is that it doesn't idle down between shifts. Beyond that it behaves normal. I have searched and found many threads about this but never a solution. Some suggest a lift pump, others injectors, and some a bad ground or computer problem. Has anyone ever found a solution to this problem? I can't afford a new truck and injectors at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't say my truck revs between shifts, but it doesn't go to idle either. The typically G56 shifts fast so the RPMs are generally about right for the next gear. Not sure if this helps. The CR's need a bit of time to bleed off rail pressure between shifts when you are into it too. I never drove a 2nd gen stick, so we'll see what other have to say about the 3rd gen sticks.

Thanks for the replies, that makes me feel better. I believe the current owner is describing the same scenario as you both are. The engine takes awhile to decrease RPM's between shifts. He said it has done it since he bought the pickup. Guess I will be in a 3rd soon. Thanks again.

It's somewhat normal for the rpm hang on the manual shift CR engines. The rpms hangs (especially at high rpms) due to the fact it's takes time to bleed down the rail pressure after dropping the throttle. The sweet spot is to shift around 2,000-2,200 rpms.
If the rpm hang for extremely long time (more than a few seconds) it's usually a indication of a sticking FCA or sticking injectors.

You're climbing a hill in 4th or 5th gear, spinning up to 2000rpm with 30psi of boost and 26k psi of fuel pressure in the rail, making about 300hp. Let off the pedal and throw in the clutch to shift.
Are the rpm's going to drop right now? Not likely. But fuel and air pressure bleed off in the second it takes to get the next gear. Nature of the beast.

Both 3rd gens I've had would accelerate briefly when you pulled your foot out of it, if you were at full power in higher RPM's.
From talking to other folks, that seems pretty normal. I'd guess it is just the boost pressure and rail pressure are still high.
99.5% of the time I'm taking my foot off the pedal less abruptly, and it behaves.

The rpms hang between shift with my 03, too. Low rpm is not bad but pushing it hard at higher rpm is worse and a hot download/running hard makes it stay up there til I let the clutch back out and pull it down. I've talked to friends with 03s and you just have to get used to it. Craig

Sorry to disagree....
And no flame intended, but the hang is all programming to ease the speed down to prevent hydrocarbons in the exhaust emissions.
Rail pressure does not go anywhere if the injectors are not fired. Same lack of response if you blip the throttle. The p-pump engine will really bark when the pedal is stabbed. These CR engines just sort of roll in and out of it. If you want to see haw fast it will roll down turn the key off when you shift it!
I miss the bark! I used to make the '96 engine bark if someone in front of me at a traffic light did not move when the light changed. Worked every time.
