03-04 Common Rail Injectors. USE Insurance

Recently, I sent a few sets of the new EDM common rail injectors out. I have zero results to report back. One guy got his and went on vacation. UPS lost, stole or otherwise mishandled the other set. We put them in the UPS drop box, the driver scanned them in, and from there on forward...everything is a mystery. They looked for the injectors for weeks. Never found them.

The moral of the story on the loss is: Always , no matter how much the cost is....use the UPS insurance. Always. UPS is lackluster in looking for missing packages. They may have been more motivated to look or investigate if they had been insured. Who knows. Finally, if you ship any injectors...use a plain package, max the isurance out for the actual value and never look back. The total retail cost of the loss was over 3700 bucks.




Everyone got hurt. The guy that purchased them because he has been without a truck, and me because I am now eating a massive loss.

UPS is way too large to even try and get involved. I suspect they were stolen at the UPS hub before they even made it to the airport. I have decided to let a private investigator try and get to the bottom of it. Maybe he can get somewhere. If I find the SOB that stole them ( if thats the case ) he will be locked away as long as I can influence.

Adding insult to injury, I did not have the nozzles here for the customer and this is delaying the mess even longer. Good pricing on Common Rail injectors is over 400 bucks each with the core charge.

Don, sometimes even having insurance with UPS is worthless.

The higher the claim the more they will stall. I have encountered this too many times to count and the losses are huge.

I'm not bashing but I am telling how it is.

Then there was the time I watched a UPS BROWN truck back into my 98 Ram and crush the dually fender. I had the truck number, the plate number and a witness. Also had a police report even though the cops did not want it because they felt the damage was under the limit for a report. NOT!!

For 3 yrs I had to talk to another and get another quote and then the person I was dealing with quit or went elsewhere and then when they told me its not their fault and the driver was no longer with them, I had had enough.

Now we are dealing with short shipments to the USA and missing shipments to Canada. One order they said its in the hands of our 3rd party broker...uhh...UPS is our broker. Then they deliver half of the units at the USA address and expect a signature.

Anyway, this will change for us. The USA side just needed to experience it a few more times to get motivated to look elsewhere. He did call Fed Ex and the rep has not called back in 3 wks. Maybe I should get a trained mule to ship.

I am trying the guys at DHL for the next few months to see how it works out. So far. so good. I still like my local UPS driver, but the company is anouther story. I cant disclose the amount of shipping I do with UPS, but its a sick amount of money. The customer service 800 numbers are worthless.

We called every hub and airport that UPS uses. All to no avail. Its just a huge corporation with no real accountability for loss.

I will find these injectors or what happened to them if it takes years.

I too have experienced UPS nightmares, I sent a package insured valued around $800.00 and they delivered it to the wrong address

When the Customer finally let me know he had not received it yet, UPS tells me that the driver admitted he left it on the wrong door step, and as far as they were concerned it had been delivered .

They argued over the insurance matter till I was blue in the face, and finally gave up. I located somebody in California to drive to the house where the UPS driver thought he may have left it, and luckily the home owner had the box in his closet

I still am appalled that UPS didn't go there themselves and straighten out the mess, but they said it was delivered because the home owner signed for it, even though it was not the intended deliveree (new word) .

We are all pretty much at the mercy of these big corporations, unless we are willing to spend several thousand dollars, trying to recover a few hundred in value.

I want to point out that the drivers are only human and mistakes will happen, the sad thing is that the company won't stand behind their own regulations. In my case the driver told them he may have made a mistake, seems like he was doing all he could to help me.

Cheaper and they don't manage to destroy everything.

UPS does seem to roach more boxes than any of the others. I am trying DHL for now...Lets see what happens.

I like their set up and internet billing/shipping and bill pay features.

I used to drive for FedEx, I can say that they did try to resolve the loss pkg. issue when it came up. Of course we nearly always required a signature where as UPS will just dump and run. If a package with a high value came up missing, corporate security would be on top of it reviewing video tapes and conducting somewhat invasive interviews. Fact of the matter is, you guys are right, all these companies care about is dollar. They will say anything to get you to ship with them, but once they have your pkg and your money, they don't care about you or your pkg. I think if it were me, I would file a lawsuit. I'm not sure about UPS, but FedEx acted all big and bad until a lawyer got involved then they would usually just pay up to avoid negative publicity and a possible bigger loss in court. Many people are unaware that you do run this type of risk when dealing with the shipping industry. Good Luck with it.

UPS is a joke! FEDEX ground is 20-40% less and twice as fast. The packages arrive in tact and their customer service is responsive. UPS so bad, I wouldn't even think about buying one share of their stock.

It is definately more money, but if your packages are not too big, I have had excellent luck with USPS Priority Mail. They seem to be able to go across the country in 2-3 days.

BTW, I worked for UPS for 7 years. With the number of packages they handle, the "law of averages" is working against you. I don't know about these days, but when I was there, they shipped as many packages as the USPS, FedEx, and DHL combined.

I hear you on that, but I would suggest that you kind of stretch the truth a little. When you get to talk to a service rep. tell them you and your company are in the process of hiring a law firm to help you resolve this. It may not be ethical and truthful, but it may get them to pay attention to you. They are not playing fair, so I don't see why you should either. I'm sure the money lost means more to you then it does to UPS. Stay at it and they might fold under the pressure if they feel your not going to just bend over and take it.

Im hoping that DHL is still small enough in this market, that they have a better policy towards insurance and paying the claims...if there are any.

UPS has done a lame job of trying to find the package. The few people we were able to speak with told us that no one from UPS internally had even contacted them to see if the package was at the "over goods" area. UPS did not even ask their own departments about the package.

We went so far as to make up a several mock packages that looked exactly like the lost or stolen one and distributed them to the driver, the hub and local airport. Nothing!

Seems like they grew legs and walked off. Seems like UPS could frickin care less.
Seems like the security and hiring practices at UPS could be somewhat lacking too. Maybe the holiday help....was less than screened before they hired them.

Im not a happy guy over this....life goes on though. The hunt continues for the culprit. I will find out one of these days.

I've shipped and recieved over 10,000 guns over the years mostly by UPS and haven't lost one yet...Maybe I'm just lucky...I insure them anyway...The US Mail carrier left some by the mailbox one day though and tried to claim she had brought them inside (she couldn't produce a signature card though)...I eventually found them in the ditch with the package opened...She got fired...Ben

I bought some antique floor grates off ebay. Seller sent them Fed Ex Insurance was about $3 , two of the cast iron grates were broken in shipment. I emailed seller a picture of broken grates,he filed a claim on my behalf . The next week I was reimbursed the cost of the grates & shipping.
