02 24V Cummins Turbo Stuttering
I got a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500, 6 Speed Cummins Diesel HO
This is what it is doing.
After driving for at least an hour at 65-80Mph I get this.
"Going along just fine- burrrrrrrrrrr __________ at this point it is losing power, no accelerator action nothing, slowing down to 55mph now.Slam in the clutch, floor it several times and then it comes back to life. 5 minutes later the same thing.
No problems starting, ever
Starts all the time first crank.
Replaced the fuel filter, black slimed. (Diesel Bugs?)
It is also doing this, running just fine then the engine starts surging, kinda like someone snoaring. Very anoying.
The sound is - Burrrrrrrrrrrrrr-Rup-Burrrrrrrrrrr-Rup-Burrrrrrrrrr
and what is
1. Lift Pump, Tank Mounted?
2. Injection Pump Engine mounted?
Anyone can tell me what this might be?

Welcome to the site. It sound like your lift pump might be going. There is a valve on the side of the injection pump you can tap into. The lift pump is on the drivers side of the engine behind the fuel filter.

Sounds like maybe the APPS or the VP44 may be giving you trouble... Did you get a check engine light or set any DTC's??? Kurt

this is a very contagious problem and the flu shot seems to be the APPS recalibration. Check your diagnostic center for codes like P0120 through P0124 or 5. These are the APPS codes and no you don't have to get a check engine light or other for them to be stored in the computer. Ditto on the other stuff too. Lift pump, dirty filter, clogged lines, bad injectors, MAP, IAT, and CKP sensors. Autozone should pull your codes for free and tell you what they are. Get back to us with any results and or if you need some more help. God bless and good luck.

If you had black "slime" on your filter, it might take a good dose of algae treatment (or 2) and a couple more fuel filter changes before it is all out of the lines.
If it was just black colored, that's normal.

Although some of the AutoParts stores can pull your codes they often give the wrong code explantion. It's best to write them down and post them back here for the correct answers.
Also on several occasions I have pulled codes with a scanner that does not show up on the trucks display. Do it both ways and get them cleared if possible to see if they come back.
