01 fuel pressure gauge

I have always driven stock cummins trucks and i have an 01 2500 i just bought cheap with high miles and im looking to put on a fuel pressure gauge. I think im going to tap into the test port on the side of the pump rather than the filter housing. I want to just get a kit and install it, i was looking at this from vulcan performance, is this everytihng i need to install or will i need a ball valve/snuffer or will the isolator do this job to get rid of fuel pulses to the gauge. Thanks http://www.vulcanperformance.com/ser...l?sfs=6fbeec73

I have that very same gauge, and It works fine. I also used the vulcan kit (FFVPU) which costs 32.99. The fitting with the small 1/8 inch tap is installed at the inlet of the VP44 and so my gauge reads fuel pressure at the input to the injection pump. I fitted a needle valve in the line near the fire wall to throtle down the pulsations at the gauge. So far it has worked flawlessly. I mounted my fuel gauge in the cubby on the dash above the cup holders.

Sorry I don't have any pics. But the main reason for the kit is it eliminates the restrictive "banjo bolts" in the stock fuel delivery system, it greatly increases the flow (volume) of fuel between filter and VP44.[ the stock line from the filter to the VP44 is smaller than 3/16 inside diameter, and the kit is 1/2 inch diameter, you do the math].
My location for mounting the gauge was picked only because it was out of the way, and the line would be protected from being caught up in anything that could dammage it. And the fitting in the kit lets you sample the pressure were it matters most, (at the inlet to the injector pump)

now with that larger line kit, do you feel any difference or can tell any difference in pressure or fueling etc??

Yes, I first had the gauge set up in a different place, with the original feul pump. then after the 2nd lift pump [which by the way took out the Vp44 too]
The dealer replaced the Vp44 and at the same time they installed the in the tank pump. I showed 7psi at idle and 1 1/2 to 2 psi at wide open throttle. The next day I altered the system and added the Vulcan big line kit. Now I have 9 psi at idle, and I can't get it below 6.5 psi at WOT. And to date I have put over 70k miles with the big line kit.
