what is this....
just looking under the hood today and noticed what looks like some sort of drain that runs from my vp-44 and goes into a plastic container(pics are in my photo gallery once they get approved) it has a bunch of oil in and oil all over everything below it. anybody have any idea what it is for?

That would be your blow-by catch bottle.
If left in it's stock position, it needs to be emptied/cleaned every oil change, or it will do what you are seeing, puke oil all over everything, and get blown by the fan onto the back of the radiator gumming up the works.
Many have extended the hose down further to prevent this, others have gone a step further and moved the whole thing to the back of the engine.
If you do extend the hose, make sure it is all going downhill, or oil/water will pool in the dips, blocking the blowby from escaping.
