Just back from the dealer. Was supposed to pick up the new truck this am. Got a call that it has a siezed left rear bearing. Chewed up the housing. 473 klicks on it. According to service manager can't order the stub housing separate. Needs the whole housing, bearing, hub etc etc. ETA about forever. No other anti slip on the lot to steal parts from. Is this a commom problem or an isolated incident? He said fluid was full. Right bearing is not damaged. I asked him to find another truck but none around.<br>So basically I would like to know from any techs out there can the stub be replaced separatey or not? It is a 3.73 ltd slip. <br><br>Thanks<br>Paul<br>

If its a new truck I would so deny it. I would'nt want a truck that is brand new and has a seized rear end on it. Makes you wonder about how the rest of the truck was built. Either that or have them order a whole new rear end and install it and give you one hell of a discount. <br><br>I thought dealers could not sell transit damaged equipment without discounting them and having you sign a waiver. My dad had to on his dodge avenger that had hood damage. I am assuming you have not even driven the truck yet of course.

Nope have not driven this truck yet. Was a dealer trade as the dealer I purchased from did not have the truck I wanted.I already told them that if they put pieces in rather than a new assy then I wanted to drive it for a couple thousand k before I paid for it. Also want them to put an extended warr on the powertrain. 6 yrs unlimited k on the rear end as I put on high mileage each year. The 98 truck I traded has 260,000 on it. Or I will walk away and get something else. Thanks<br>Paul

Spots,<br> My words to the dealer would be to find another, 'cause I sure wouldn't take that one. Has a problem before you even take delivery? No way I would take it. Let the dealer do another dealer locate and send that one back to the dealer they got it from!

For what they charge $$$ for these trucks I would walk away from that one...it just leave me cold to think what else could be wrong with it...these bearing dont just freeze up by magic theres a reason and I think the dealer that shipped that truck in is trying to cover up something (full diff level ??)...jmy.02cents

I agree with pappyman on this one - kill this &quot;deal&quot; while you still can. The only person this is a &quot;deal&quot; for is the dealership that sent it. Just have another locate done for another one; it usually works out better in the end.

I see that this truck was obtained from another dealership. Was it driven from there to yours and what was the mileage on the vehicle?

I just got off the phone with the parts manager. A new axle assy (full diff) was located in Milwaukee and will be shipped overnight. Next closest truck does not have the right equipment on it for me. Really need the fold flat floor and limited slip. Other truck available has no ltd slip, no trailer mirrors, no tow package. Truck was picked up by my dealership and driven about one hour before it siezed. Talked to the driver-he said felt like the emergency cable stuck on so he stopped. Then called for a towtruck and it was flatbedded to the service. I don't think the other dealer had any idea it was defective. They are also putting an extended warr (3rd party) on it for me no charge. Still going to drive it for a while before I pay for it.<br><br>Paul

Spots..your truck will be fine. You are getting a lot of advice on here that you may not be able to find and it will leave you very frustrated...It is not realistic to think that the first dealer transfered it to the next because it had a problem..doesn't work like that. Good luck with your new truck..this instance doesn't mean you are going to have a problematic truck.<br>

also..it has no bearing on how the rest of your truck was assembled...the people that built your rear end(American Axle) have not touched any other part of your Ram..you're getting a complete new assembly, I wouldn't worry about it.....Won't be worth a nickle less whenever you sell or trade it....gluck

I guess this diff assy musta skipped the assy line quality control class. BTW my manager drives a 03 cummins and after hearing the issues with this one booked his in for fluid checks. Diff, according to the tech, was low. He has about 5k on it now. No noise or anything but it was noted on the work order in case of future problems.<br><br>Paul

I empathize with your concern ! Just bought a 03 PSD F250 . <br>On the test drive the Tow/Haul light was flashing . They put in a NEW Transmission( right off the production line ) . Eventually it Turned out to be a wiring connector .<br>I did have a LOT of reservations at first, But my dealer has ALWAYS taken care of me , even when out of warranty .<br> They threw in a few &quot;dealer &quot; options out of emberassment <br>These things happen no matter what make or model .<br>As was stated before.... The Differential was assembled at a totally different facility than where your Truck was .<br>So, if you a comfortable with your dealer and service department ,Go with the new Diff . Just make sure that you document every thing .<br>Good luck,and all the best , John
