Are all 6.7s junk?
I am not beating up on people with 6.7s. I am actually thinking about buying a new 4500 chassis cab for hot shotting. I know 2 people that have bought 6.7 trucks and both were in the shop after just a few weeks. 1 truck was an 08 3500 auto and the other is a 09 auto. Has Dodge figured out the problem? The problem with most trucks were sensors in the exhaust system. I am sure with a DPF delete the trucks would be fine. But if I am buying a truck to make money I can't afford to trash my warranty. Just looking to see how other 6.7 owners trucks are doing?

I've only had mine for 5 months and no problems other than a u-joint (dealer only item, THANK YOU very much dodge) and a burnt out headlight. I use this truck for about 25% towing my dump trailer and 75% running my rototiller (re. not working it hard) around town. No emissions issues and the truck just works. I only let it idle to warm it up in the morning and run the exhaust brake all the time.
I had a 2000 before this and since the upgrade, I'll never go back (my kidneys are thanking me every time I drive it). The 6 speed auto is AMAZING and the torque of the 6.7 (I'm talking stock) down low is impressive... The only thing I miss is the carrying capacity of the 2nd gen. I had 2000lbs of rock in the bed and it was not even on the overloads. I solved that issue by going to air bags so I still have the nice ride and the carrying capacity if I need it. If the big 3 were smart, they should offer air bags as a option. I would pay for that.

I don't thinks so, but that's just based on what I've read here. If I were to hotshot, I would go for the Dodge before the competition. Big decision tho on an expensive and important piece of work equipment. I don't know anything about the F-450, but I like the idea of inline Cummins best. Some folks that actually own them will chime in and give you some useful info I'm sure. Seems like if you pull heavy all the time with them, they do better, according to peoples posts that have them. the 6.7 is a very good engine the epa is the problem.. most of us take the risk of loosing the warranty and remove the junk. the dealer in our area works with the contractors because they know we make them trouble free.

Thanks for all the input. I have been there done with an 05 F-550 before. 6 turbos, 2 intercoolers, and 4 EGR's in the first 32,000 miles. I have also heard that if you work the trucks they will have less problems with the exhaust. What does keeping the exhaust brake turned on help? That is what the dealer told my buddy when he bought his 09 new a few weeks ago.

I won't go into the principles of operation and just say the turbo is a variable (VGT) design. As such, the more you keep it moving and actuating the less the soot can accumulate and clog up the mechanisms... The principle of the design of these emmisions involves heat and time. So working them hard is what keeps the systems in the best shape. Also, the truck is designed for such purposes. I had pretty good luck with mine before the emmission fell off and now it is only that much better! Don't let the stories get to you. It is a great truck, it just doesn't tolerate "ignorance" as much as the past ones, and none of the other manufactures do either.

I don't know where you get your info. I have a 08 built 11.07 without a single problem and is stock with 90,000 miles.

I have had 2 5.9's and now a 6.7 I would not go back to a 5.9. Love the truck !!!!!!!! Like was posted before after the ex , egr and oyher stuff fell off Its even better. I think plugging the egr on a stock truck will make the ex run cleaner for sure.

Another thing that helps is to use 'tow/haul' mode when driving around empty or with a light load, and as was mentioned always use the exhaust brake. Make sure to have to most up to date flash for the ECM. There have been many changes to the software since these units first came out, much of it having to do with the regeneration process. I've had mine since April 2007 and have not had any problems with it whatsoever. One day in the not too distant future, the 6.7L will be talked about in the same high regard as the 5.9L, which also had growing pains when it first hit the market.

I have a 2009 Ford 6.4 and love it. With that said if I was "hot shotting" again I would buy the Dodge, after you get all the emissions stuff off they are just alot more simple engine than the Ford or GM. I had a 1999 2500 with the camper package and as someone just said you could load the heck out of it with very little sag. These new trucks ride better but for a work truck I had rather have my old 99.

Agreed. For farm type work you just can't beat the 99 as I have one. My personal 08 2500 cummins has 1700 miles on it and has been great. Finally, getting some GOOD things said about the 6.7.

The only "warranty" work that's been done since I got my '03 with 25K is when they made the horn honk if the door is open in reverse.
I guess I better not ever drive a 6.7 because I'm tickled to death with my 5.9! I'm sorry, all I know about 6.7 is that regen and other epa garbage is the problem.
