Afe

K so I would really like to get and intake system.... I think it'll help out with my chip and for a little mileage....but mainly just to hear the turbo whistle anyway i'm thinkin of either gettin the stage 1 or stage two from AFE (pending on price) so my questions are -

1 - where can i get one for the best price?
2 - should i get the stage 1 or stage 2?
3 - and what is the differnce between the basic afe filter, the dry filter, and the pro gaurd filter?

My turbo sounds like it is in the glove box....

aFe Stage 1, with filter (don't 'uhmember the PN), that has filtering media in the end. Then, drill a 4 1/2 inch hole in the cowl on the firewall. The filter will be a couple of inches from the hole. The cowl is a very large plenum and pushes a lot of air. This is the way the old Scotty systems were installed. To give it a finished look, buy a rubber grommet for the hole from any auto parts store.

The difference in the filters is the number of layers. I think mine is a five layer, and the Proguard 7 is......you guessed it, seven. Not sure about the dry filter. I don't drive in dusty conditions, and with a pre-filter, my filter never gets dirty. Just wash the pre-filter in warm, soapy water and let air dry a couple of times a year.

You guys realize that our stock air boxes are good till like 500 rwhp? for what little egt drop and mpg gain you get for the price its not worth it. take the boot out of the stock air box and you essentially have a s&b intake.

you are going to lose 10% efficiency by adding the afe because of the hot under hood air, need to stay with something that only allows cold air

I got the AFE stg 2 for $350. I thought this was a good price and thats all the money i had. I couldn't afford anything else so i took the plunge. I LOVED it. And yes you will hear the turbo like crazy. With the AFE and Edge i gained about 4 mpg. So i say yes go for it.

Or, if your just worried about being able to hear the turbo, just go with a BHAF. Thats what I have on mine, along with a heat shield I made for it, and the turbo is plenty loud to suit me. I think for the little bit of fuel mileage you would gain from a intake system, this is your best bet. VulcanPerformance.com has the BHAF filters for $38 and some change, cheapest I've seen. Just cut the hole in your cowl as mentioned above, and you'll really be able to hear it.
